Role Summary
We are looking for a highly creative and detail-oriented Fashion Designer to join our design studio. You will be responsible for taking collections from concept to reality, working closely with our master tailors (masterjis), embroiderers (karigars), and production teams. The ideal candidate has a deep passion for Indian textiles, an exceptional eye for detail, and strong expertise in traditional embroidery techniques and garment construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualization & Sketching: Research seasonal trends, colors, and fabrics to develop mood boards and conceptualize upcoming festive and bridal collections. Create detailed technical sketches and flat drawings.
- Fabric & Trim Sourcing: Source high-quality fabrics, trims, embellishments, and embroidery materials. Maintain relationships with weavers, vendors, and suppliers.
- Embroidery & Surface Ornamentation: Design innovative embroidery layouts (khakas) and work directly with artisans to develop samples for techniques like Zardozi, Aari, Gota Patti, and thread work.
- Prototyping & Sampling: Oversee the end-to-end sampling process. Collaborate with pattern makers and tailors to ensure precise cuts, drapes, and fits.
- Fitting & Alterations: Conduct fit sessions on dress forms and live models. Identify structural or aesthetic issues and execute necessary adjustments.
- Production Coordination: Create comprehensive tech packs. Liaise with the production team to ensure bulk manufacturing aligns perfectly with the approved samples and quality standards.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished garments to ensure flawless finishing, stitching, and embroidery before they hit the retail floor.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fashion Design from a reputed institute (e.g., NIFT, Pearl Academy, NID).
- Experience: Atleast 1 year of proven experience in designing ethnic wear, bridal couture, or occasion wear.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong hand-sketching skills and proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CorelDRAW for creating tech packs and digital illustrations.
- Textile Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Indian handlooms, silk varieties, brocades, and dyeing techniques.
- Craftsmanship Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of traditional Indian surface ornamentation and embroidery styles.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, ability to manage multiple collections simultaneously, and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced studio environment.
