- Production Planning: Translating engineering drawings and work orders into actionable daily schedules.
- Workflow Optimization: Identifying "choke points" in the fabrication process (like a slow CNC station or a backup in the paint booth) and rerouting resources to fix them.
- Capacity Planning: Determining if the shop can handle a new large-scale contract based on current man-hours and machine availability.
- Quality Assurance (QA): Ensuring every weld, cut, and bend meets industry standards
- Inventory Control: Tracking raw material stock (sheets, beams, hardware) to ensure production doesn't grind to a halt because you're out of a specific alloy.
- Waste Reduction: Implementing "Lean" or "Six Sigma" principles to minimize scrap metal and optimize sheet nesting.
- OSHA/HSE Compliance: Ensuring all operators are using PPE, machines have proper guarding, and the shop meets ventilation standards (especially for galvanizing or painting).
- Training: Certifying workers on specific equipment and conducting regular safety tool-box talks.
- Labor Allocation: Deciding which welders or fabricators are best suited for specific high-precision tasks.
