Position Summary
Level: Senior Product Specialist
As a Senior Product Specialist at Deloitte Consulting, you will design, develop, and deploy enterprise-scale software solutions, lead the creation of robust pipelines and manage code deployment across environments. You will collaborate with cross-functional, global teams to translate functional requirements into effective deliverables, independently guiding and mentoring junior team members. Your role spans the full project lifecycle, including estimation, planning, execution, and tracking key metrics for analysis, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery of solutions.
Work you’ll do:
Lead discussions with business and functional analysts to understand requirements and assess integration impacts on business architecture. Prepare technical architecture and design, clarify requirements, and resolve ambiguities. Develop solutions in line with established technical designs, integration standards, and quality processes. Create and enforce technical design and development guides, templates, and standards. Facilitate daily scrum meetings, manage deliverables, and prepare weekly status reports for leadership review. Conduct detailed deliverable reviews and provide technical guidance to team members. Collaborate with onsite clients, coordinators, analysts, and cross-functional teams. Design templates or scripts to automate routine development or operational tasks.

Role Summary
Senior Product Specialist – Mainframe Developer with strong hands-on experience in enterprise mainframe application development and support, along with exposure to mainframe modernization initiatives. The role requires deep technical expertise across core mainframe technologies, the ability to lead development and enhancement efforts, and the capability to support modernization through API enablement, migration planning, automation, and integration with distributed/cloud platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, enhance, and maintain complex mainframe applications in enterprise environments.
- Work across core technologies including COBOL/PL1, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, IMS DB/DC, z/OS, TSO/ISPF, and related tools.
- Analyze existing application architecture, batch jobs, interfaces, and data flows to support enhancements, issue resolution, and performance improvements.
- Manipulate and analyze mainframe data using tools such as File-Aid, File Manager, SPUFI, QMF, and similar utilities.
- Translate business requirements into technical designs, development tasks, and implementation plans.
- Lead code reviews, enforce coding and quality standards, and promote development of best practices across the team.
- Manage production releases and provide reliable post-implementation and production support.
- Identify automation opportunities and implement solutions that improve efficiency, quality, and delivery speed.
- Collaborate closely with architects, project managers, analysts, testers, and cross-functional teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to capability building within the team.
Required Qualifications / Must-Have Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in mainframe development in large, complex enterprise environments.
- Advanced expertise in COBOL/PL1, JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM, IMS DB/DC, z/OS, TSO/ISPF, SPUFI, QMF, MQ Series, and mainframe scheduling tools.
- Proven experience leading the design, development, enhancement, and migration of mainframe solutions.
- Strong understanding of SDLC, code review practices, technical documentation, and quality standards.
- Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery models, including sprint ceremonies, estimation, and Agile metrics such as velocity, cycle time, and burndown.
- Ability to ask the right clarifying questions, remove ambiguity, and convert business needs into effective technical solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, especially in client-facing environments.
- Demonstrated ability to coach team members and contribute to talent development.
- Good understanding of AI concepts and current technology trends, with the ability to identify practical use cases relevant to delivery.
Preferred Qualifications / Good-to-Have Skills
- Exposure to mainframe modernization, including application assessment, integration with distributed systems, and migration planning.
- Experience with API enablement, middleware integration, automated testing, DevOps, and workload optimization.
- Expertise in DB2 tuning, batch optimization, or automation using REXX, MQ, scripting, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with at least one cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Basic understanding of cloud infrastructure and services.
- Relevant cloud certifications such as Cloud Practitioner, Developer, or Associate Solutions Architect.
- Awareness of Python, PySpark, Glue, or similar technologies/services.
- Ability to use structured prompting effectively to improve output quality, reasoning, and relevance for project delivery tasks.
- Basic understanding of RAG and grounded AI concepts, including the importance of using enterprise-approved data sources to improve response accuracy and reduce hallucinations.
- Ability to evaluate AI outputs critically, identify inconsistencies or bias, and apply sound judgment before using AI-generated content in client or delivery work.
- Understanding of industry trends, disruptors, and recent events relevant to the projects being delivered.
