Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Minimum B.Sc. Nursing or GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery).
- Registration: Valid State/National Nursing Council Registration.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) are typically mandatory.
- Experience: Previous clinical experience in critical care, cardiac care, or a specialized Cath Lab is highly preferred.
- Pre-Procedure
· Review patient history and verify that informed consent has been obtained.
· Prepare the Cath Lab environment, ensuring the sterility of catheters, guidewires, balloons, and stents.
· Ensure all emergency equipment (defibrillator, crash cart, suction) is present and fully functioning.
· Assist with patient preparation, including skin prep, positioning, and sterile draping.
Intra-Procedure
· Maintain strict, sterile "scrub" technique when handling and handing instruments to the cardiologist.
· Assist directly with advanced procedures like coronary angiograms, angioplasty (PTCA), stent placement, and pacemaker/ICD insertions.
· Anticipate the physician’s immediate needs during the procedure to maintain procedural flow.
· Monitor patient vital signs, hemodynamics, and cardiac rhythms alongside the circulating nurse.
· Respond rapidly to life-saving cardiac emergencies, such as arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, or Code STEMIs.
Post-Procedure
· Assist with sheath removal and ensure proper hemostasis and dressing at the puncture site.
· Complete detailed documentation, including consumables, implants (stents/valves), and medications used.
Safely transfer patient details to the recovery, ICU, or ward nursing teams
