Role Description: We are looking for an AIT Engineer who owns the complete physical lifecycle of our space products, from pre-build structural and thermal analysis through precision manufacturing, assembly, integration, environmental test campaigns, validation, and handoff to launch service providers. This is not a support role. You will have full ownership of hardware readiness from TRL-3 through TRL-9, with direct responsibility for ensuring every unit that leaves our facility is test-proven and fully documented.

What You Will Do
Design Analysis - Pre-Build
- Perform structural FEA analysis on assembled motor and reaction wheel units - rotor containment at high RPM, bearing seat integrity, launch load survival, and vibration mode prediction across the frequency range of the launch spectrum
- Conduct thermal modeling - identify heat dissipation pathways, predict thermal equilibrium under continuous motor operation, and evaluate worst-case hot spots at the winding, bearing, and housing interfaces
- Validate design intent against analysis results before committing to physical build - flag structural, thermal, or integration failure risks early and work with the motor design engineer to resolve them
- Manufacturing drawings for assembly feasibility and tolerance stack-up before release for machining
Assembly & Integration
- Design, develop, and fabricate mechanical sub-components - housing structures, mounting brackets, bearing assemblies, test fixtures, and handling tooling - required for prototype and qualification unit build
- Lead the full physical assembly and integration of all motor sub-systems: spin motor, flywheel, bearing assembly, encoder, gimbal and nutation motor, launch lock mechanism, and structural enclosure
- Develop and maintain assembly procedures, work instructions, and inspection records for every build - ensuring full traceability from component receipt to completed unit
- Coordinate hands-on with electrical engineers during build phases to resolve integration issues as they arise - connector routing, wire harness management, grounding, sensor alignment
- Maintain clean-room discipline and ESD protocol during all assembly operations - ISO Class 8 minimum
Testing & Validation
- Design and execute test campaigns for assembled units - functional bench testing, dynamometer characterization, thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, and EMI/EMC
- Own all test procedure documentation - test plans, test setup descriptions, test reports, non-conformance reports, calibration records, and corrective action logs
- Analyze test data and compare against pre-build predictions - identify discrepancies, investigate root causes, and close the loop with design and analysis
- Support handoff of validated hardware to third-party launch service providers and POEM integration teams - ensuring all documentation meets external interface and acceptance requirements
- Track and report hardware readiness status across the TRL progression from engineering model (TRL-3/4) through qualification (TRL-6/7) to flight model (TRL-8/9)
What We Are Looking For
Education
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering - essential
- M.Tech / M.Sc in Structural Analysis, Aerospace Structures, or Manufacturing - preferred
- PhD candidates with relevant research in space hardware, precision mechanisms, or structural dynamics - welcome
- Freshers with strong internship or project experience in hardware assembly, FEA analysis, or aerospace testing are encouraged to apply
Experience
- Hands-on experience in precision mechanical assembly - ideally in space, aerospace, or high-precision manufacturing environments
- Practical experience running structural or thermal FEA analysis and using the results to make design decisions - not just generating outputs
- Exposure to environmental test campaigns - vibration, thermal vacuum, shock - in any industry
- For freshers and postgraduate students: demonstrated project or thesis work in structural analysis, mechanism design, thermal management, or precision assembly is accepted in lieu of industry experience
Software Skills - Essential
- Structural FEA: ANSYS Mechanical, SolidWorks Simulation, ABAQUS, or equivalent
- Thermal modeling: ANSYS Thermal, SolidWorks Flow Simulation, or equivalent thermal analysis tool
- CAD: SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent - for fixture design and drawing review
- GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis tools
Technical Knowledge
- Understanding of launch environment specifications - random vibration, shock, sinusoidal sweep, acoustic - and how they drive structural design decisions
- Thermal management principles for space hardware - conduction-dominant heat transfer, radiation in vacuum, outgassing-safe materials
- Bearing assembly and preload principles for high-RPM precision rotating machinery
- Familiarity with space hardware standards - ECSS-E-ST-10, ECSS-Q-ST-70, or equivalent - a strong advantage
- Knowledge of balancing procedures for rotating assemblies - G1.0 target for reaction wheel applications
- Understanding of clean-room protocols, ESD protection, and contamination control
