Optometrist Job Description
An Optometrist is a healthcare professional who examines eyes, diagnoses vision problems, prescribes corrective lenses, and helps detect eye diseases and conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess vision and eye health.
- Diagnose refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
- Prescribe and fit eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.
- Detect and monitor eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy.
- Educate patients on eye care, vision correction options, and preventive measures.
- Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists when necessary.
- Maintain accurate patient records and treatment plans.
- Use diagnostic equipment and interpret test results.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree or equivalent qualification recognized in the country of practice.
- Valid professional license or registration.
- Knowledge of ocular diseases, vision therapy, and optical products.
- Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
