We are seeking a creative, highly motivated Freelance Interior Designer to join our network of project-based contractors. In this role, you will lead or support residential and/or commercial design projects from initial concept through to final execution. As a freelancer, you will have the flexibility to work remotely but must be available for client alignment meetings and site visits as required by specific project milestones.
Our ideal candidate balances artistic vision with structural practicality, possesses excellent client-facing communication skills, and is highly organized in managing project timelines and deliverables independently.
Key Responsibilities1. Client Consultation & Concept Development
- Conduct initial consultations to understand client needs, style preferences, functional requirements, and budget constraints.
- Develop cohesive design concepts, mood boards, and color palettes that align with the client’s vision.
- Present concepts clearly and professionally, incorporating client feedback into revisions.
2. Space Planning & Technical Design
- Create accurate floor plans, space layouts, and furniture arrangements optimized for flow and functionality.
- Produce detailed 2D drawings, elevations, and 3D renderings to help clients visualize the final space.
- Ensure all designs comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and accessibility standards.
3. Sourcing & Material Specification
- Select and specify appropriate furniture, fixtures, lighting, flooring, wall coverings, and textiles (FF&E).
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of material costs, vendor options, and lead times to keep projects on budget.
- Provide detailed procurement lists with specifications for purchasing.
4. Project Coordination & Execution
- Collaborate with contractors, architects, and tradespeople to ensure design intent is accurately executed on-site.
- Conduct periodic site visits to review progress, troubleshoot unexpected structural or design challenges, and ensure quality control.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years of proven experience working as an interior designer (portfolio required).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
- Technical Software: Proficiency in industry-standard design tools, specifically:
- AutoCAD or Revit (for technical drafting)
- SketchUp, 3ds Max, or Rhino (for 3D modeling)
- V-Ray, Enscape, or Lumion (for rendering)
- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) for presentation decks
- Business Acumen: Experience estimating project hours, managing budgets, and sourcing from vendors.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication, active listening, and the ability to manage client expectations gracefully.
