Experienced PLC Engineer
We are looking for an experienced PLC Engineer to design, develop, build, commission and troubleshoot industrial automation systems for machine automation projects, including high speed inspection machines, custom part inspection systems, servo controlled mechanisms, sensor based automation and production line equipment.
The candidate should have strong hands-on experience in PLC programming, electrical controls, industrial communication, motor control and real time machine troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and commission industrial control systems for automation machines.
- Develop PLC logic using Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram and other PLC programming methods.
- Work on automation projects involving motors, VFDs, servo drives, stepper motors, sensors, pneumatic systems, relays, solenoid valves and industrial actuators.
- Develop machine sequences, state logic, interlocks, alarms, safety conditions and automatic cycle logic.
- Program and integrate PLCs with HMIs, servo drives, VFDs, inspection devices, sensors, industrial cameras and external systems.
- Work on inspection machines involving height inspection, part detection, sorting logic, station indexing, servo positioning, stepper control, camera triggers and reject handling.
- Integrate devices using industrial communication protocols such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, Ethernet, RS485, TCP/IP and other machine communication protocols.
- Work with inspection instruments, measurement devices, digital gauges, displacement sensors, photoelectric sensors, proximity sensors, and encoders.
- Create and modify electrical schematics, control panel layouts and wiring drawings.
- Support control panel wiring, IO testing, device addressing, signal testing and field installation.
- Perform PLC and HMI programming of Schneider, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley, Veichi or similar PLC systems.
- Develop HMI screens for machine operation, manual mode, auto mode, alarms, recipes, calibration, diagnostics and production monitoring.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues during machine build, testing, installation and production trials.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test.
- Understand customer requirements and convert them into automation logic, specifications and machine operation documents.
- Prepare technical manuals, IO lists, wiring references, operating procedures and troubleshooting documentation.
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, production and software teams to complete projects.
- Support installation and commissioning at customer sites.
Required Skills
- Strong experience in PLC programming for industrial machines.
- Good understanding of Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram and structured machine sequencing.
- Experience with servo motors, stepper motors, VFDs and motor control systems.
- Knowledge of industrial sensors, limit switches, proximity sensors, photoelectric sensors, encoders and measurement devices.
- Hands-on experience with Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, Ethernet communication and RS485 based device integration.
- Ability to read and create electrical schematics and control panel wiring diagrams using SkyCAD.
- Experience in IO mapping, signal testing, panel testing and field wiring troubleshooting.
- Good understanding of machine safety, emergency stop circuits, interlocks, alarms and fault handling.
- Experience in machine commissioning, debugging and real time breakdown troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently on site and resolve hardware, wiring, PLC logic and communication issues.
Good to Have
- Basic knowledge of robotics, pick and place systems or robot communication and integration.
- Working knowledge of barcode scanners, industrial cameras, lens, lights, digital measuring devices or SPC gauges will be an added advantage.
- Experience in integrating PLC systems with industrial automation workflows using Node RED or similar platforms for data exchange, machine control, monitoring and diagnostics.
Education
M.S./M.Tech, B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Robotics, Automation, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Instrumentation or related engineering fields.
Experience
Minimum 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in PLC programming, machine automation and industrial commissioning.
Experience in special purpose machines, inspection machines or production automation will be preferred.
