Job Summary:
The Duty Medical Officer (DMO) is responsible for providing immediate medical care to patients, managing emergency cases, coordinating with consultants, ensuring proper documentation, and maintaining quality patient care during assigned shifts.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:Clinical Responsibilities
- Assess, examine, diagnose, and initiate treatment for OPD, IPD, and emergency patients.
- Attend all medical emergencies and stabilize patients before consultant intervention.
- Monitor admitted patients and review their clinical progress regularly.
- Perform medical procedures within the scope of practice.
- Ensure timely referrals and consultations with specialists.
Patient Care Management
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records.
- Explain treatment plans and procedures to patients and attendants.
- Ensure continuity of patient care during shift handovers.
- Monitor patient safety and infection control practices.
Emergency & Critical Care
- Respond promptly to all emergency calls and code blue situations.
- Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) when required.
- Coordinate emergency admissions and transfers.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with consultants, nursing staff, laboratory, pharmacy, and other departments.
- Inform consultants regarding patient status changes.
- Participate in clinical discussions and case presentations.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete admission notes, progress notes, discharge summaries, and death summaries.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and legal requirements.
- Report medico-legal cases as per statutory guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Ensure proper utilization of hospital resources.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist in NABH/JCI accreditation activities.
- Attend departmental meetings and training programs.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Emergency response time.
- Accuracy and completeness of medical documentation.
- Patient satisfaction scores.
- Compliance with clinical protocols.
- Reduction in clinical incidents and medication errors.
- Timely consultant communication.
- Infection control compliance.
Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- Valid Medical Council Registration.
- BLS/ACLS certification preferred.
Experience
- 0–3 years for Junior DMO.
- 3+ years preferred for Senior DMO.
- Experience in emergency medicine or hospital settings preferred.
