We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our electrical manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing custom and standard electrical enclosures, switchgear panels, and control cabinets. Because our production heavily relies on in-house CNC punching machines, you will serve as the critical link between product conception and manufacturing—ensuring all designs are optimized for sheet metal fabrication, tooling constraints, and material yield. Core Responsibilities Design & Engineering Design sheet metal enclosures, brackets, busbars, and chassis for low/medium voltage electrical products (e.g., control panels, switchgears, transformers). Develop complete 3D models, 2D fabrication drawings, and accurate flat-pattern developments using [SolidWorks / Creo / Inventor] Sheet Metal modules. Incorporate electrical clearances, thermal management (louvers, fan cutouts), and structural integrity into mechanical designs. Ensure designs comply with industry standards for electrical enclosures (e.g., NEMA ratings, IP ratings, UL/IEC standards). Design for Manufacturability (DFM) & CNC Punching Optimize part designs specifically for our CNC Punching Machine [insert brand, e.g., Amada, Trumpf, Murata], taking into account standard turret tooling, punch radii, and nibbling constraints. Generate DXF/DWG files for flat patterns and collaborate with programmers to optimize nesting, reduce scrap, and minimize tool changes. Modify existing product lines to reduce manufacturing time and improve punch press efficiency. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Electrical Engineers to ensure accurate cutouts for HMIs, push buttons, cable glands, and internal component mounting (DIN rails, backplates). Generate and manage precise Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routing steps within the company’s ERP system. Liaise with the shop floor operators to troubleshoot fabrication issues, tool clashes, or bend-deduction calculations on the press brake following the punching process.
