The Basis Capability Lead is responsible for overseeing SAP Basis operations, maintenance, continuous improvement initiatives, and project-related activities across the SAP environment. This role drives service delivery excellence, manages provider performance, coordinates resource planning and workload priorities, and ensures effective governance of system changes, updates, and implementations. The position also works closely with internal stakeholders, Main Capability Leads, and external service providers to maintain stable, secure, and efficient SAP operations while identifying opportunities for process and performance improvement.
- Develop and implement processes to improve visibility, accountability, and delivery of action items.
- Manage Basis workstreams across maintenance, operations, process and performance improvements, and projects.
- Determine project resource allocations and hours based on project requirements.
- Manage and balance workload requirements across resources.
- Identify skillset requirements and make recommendations.
- Work with providers on team capacity and prioritization.
- Manage approvals and reviews for SAP system changes and implementations.
- Coordinate review of updates and communicate major system updates to Main Capability Leads.
- Make recommendations and proposals related to updates, patches, and improvements.
- Establish regular cadences and sessions with providers to manage work, issues, improvements, and recurring activities.
- Track and review provider status updates to ensure expectations are met.
- Conduct weekly calls with Main Capability Leads for updates, concerns, guidance, and approvals.
- Ensure provider performance aligns with agreed metrics and measurements.
- Improve and establish performance metrics while ensuring adherence to existing measures.
- Review and track SAP licenses as part of contract and operational oversight.
- Review SAP accounts and ensure roles and deactivations are managed promptly.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong 3-5 years of experience in SAP Basis administration , operations, and support.
- Experience managing third-party providers or outsourced service teams.
- Knowledge of SAP system changes, implementations, patching, and operational governance.
- Experience with resource planning, workload balancing, and service delivery management.
- Familiarity with performance metrics, SLA/KPI tracking, and continuous improvement practices.
- Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a leadership or capability lead role within an enterprise SAP environment.
- Familiarity with SAP licensing and user access governance.
- Experience working with managed service providers such as HCL.
- Knowledge of IT service management or governance frameworks such as ITIL.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
