We are looking for a driven, relationship-savvy Business Development Executive to expand our footprint in the defense and maritime sector. This role is ideal for someone with a background in the Armed Forces (Army/Navy), ship design, or ship repair industry, who understands how defense and maritime organizations operate, procure, and make decisions — and who now wants to channel that domain knowledge into building business.
You'll be the bridge between our technical/product teams and key stakeholders in the Navy, defense PSUs, shipyards, and allied industries — identifying opportunities, building relationships, and closing deals.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, pursue, and convert new business opportunities within defense, naval, and maritime segments (Navy, Coast Guard, shipyards, DPSUs, private defense manufacturers).
- Build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers — procurement officers, naval program managers, shipyard technical heads, and industry partners.
- Understand customer requirements deeply (technical and operational) and translate them into tailored proposals/solutions in coordination with the technical team.
- Track tenders, RFPs, RFIs, and empanelment opportunities relevant to naval/defense infrastructure and equipment.
- Represent the company at defense expos, naval seminars, industry meets, and networking events.
- Build and manage a healthy sales pipeline; consistently meet or exceed revenue targets.
- Provide market intelligence — competitor activity, emerging requirements, policy/procurement changes (e.g., Make in India, indigenization mandates) — to leadership.
- Coordinate with internal engineering/product teams to ensure proposals are technically sound and competitively positioned.
- Manage the full sales cycle: lead generation → qualification → proposal → negotiation → closure → relationship handover.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 5–8 years of experience in business development, sales, or client-facing roles — preferably with a background in the Army, Navy, ship design, or ship repair industry.
- Prior service/work experience in the Armed Forces, Naval Dockyards, Shipyards (public or private), or Defense PSUs is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of defense procurement processes, naval infrastructure, and/or ship repair/maintenance ecosystems.
- Proven track record of building relationships and generating business in a B2B/B2G (government) environment.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills — comfortable engaging with senior military officers, government officials, and corporate leadership alike.
- A genuine "hunter" mindset — self-motivated, target-driven, comfortable with cold outreach, and persistent in the face of long sales cycles.
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline (Engineering background is a plus but not mandatory); MBA is a plus but not mandatory.
- Willingness to travel extensively across naval bases, shipyards, and client locations.
Additional Attributes
- Existing network within Indian Navy, Coast Guard, or major shipyards (Mazagon Dock, Cochin Shipyard, GRSE, L&T, Goa Shipyard, etc.).
- Familiarity with defense terminology, ship systems, and repair/refit cycles.
- High business acumen — able to identify white spaces, structure win-win deals, and think commercially even in a technical/defense context.
Resilience and patience to navigate long government/defense sales cycles without losing momentum
