About the Role
We are looking for an expert FSSAI Compliance Advisor on a freelance basis to support our clients in navigating the complexities of food safety regulations in India.
In this role, you will serve as our subject matter expert, providing high-judgment regulatory guidance to ensure food businesses—ranging from innovative food tech startups and premium DTC brands to established manufacturers—are fully compliant with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
This is a highly flexible, remote advisory position requiring a commitment of 3 to 5 hours per week, making it an ideal role for an independent compliance consultant, food technologist, or retired regulatory officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Advisory: Provide expert guidance on determining the correct license types (Central vs. State vs. Registration) and specific Food Product Categories (including Proprietary Foods and novel formulations).
- Application & Filing Support: Review client business models, operational scales, and ingredient matrices to streamline the application process on the FoSCoS portal, minimizing rejection or queries from authorities.
- Label & Claims Review: Audit product packaging, nutritional panels, and marketing claims (e.g., "zero sugar," "organic," "functional") to ensure strict compliance with FSSAI Labelling and Display Regulations.
- Documentation Oversight: Guide clients on preparing mandatory documentation, including facility blueprints, water analysis reports, Recall Plans, and FSMS (Food Safety Management System) plans.
- Query Resolution: Provide actionable strategies and drafting assistance to respond swiftly to any clarifications or show-cause notices issued by FSSAI authorities.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Deep Expertise: Comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of the Food Safety and Standards Act, Rules, and Regulations, including recent amendments.
- Hands-on Experience: Proven track record of successfully securing FSSAI Central and State licenses, particularly for complex, proprietary, or e-commerce-based food businesses.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to dissect complex ingredient lists and manufacturing processes to identify exact compliance pathways.
- Communication: Exceptional advisory and communication skills, with the ability to translate dense legal and scientific jargon into clear, actionable advice for founders and product teams.
- Background: A degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Nutrition, Law, or a related field is highly preferred. Prior experience working within or directly interacting with regulatory bodies is a major plus.
Pay: ₹8,606.17 - ₹61,486.71 per month
