Job Summary
The Rubber Molding Engineer is responsible for overseeing rubber molding processes, improving production efficiency, ensuring product quality, troubleshooting molding defects, and supporting continuous improvement activities in the manufacturing plant. The role involves working closely with production, quality, maintenance, and tooling teams to achieve operational targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and monitor rubber molding processes such as compression molding, injection molding, and transfer molding.
- Set process parameters including temperature, pressure, curing time, and cycle time.
- Analyze and troubleshoot molding defects such as short mold, flash, air traps, burns, shrinkage, and surface defects.
- Coordinate with tool room and maintenance teams for mold maintenance and machine upkeep.
- Ensure production targets, quality standards, and customer requirements are achieved.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Support new product development and trial runs.
- Monitor raw material consumption and reduce process wastage.
- Prepare SOPs, process sheets, work instructions, and production reports.
- Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Train operators and technicians on molding processes and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Coordinate with QA team for inspections and process validation.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of rubber molding processes and rubber compounds.
- Understanding of molding machines, molds, curing systems, and production tooling.
- Knowledge of quality tools such as 7 QC Tools, SPC, CAPA, and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with automotive quality standards like IATF 16949 is preferred.
- Problem-solving and process improvement skills.
- Good communication and team coordination abilities.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and production documentation.
- Basic understanding of lean manufacturing and 5S practices.
Qualification
- Diploma in Rubber Technology, Polymer Engineering, Plastic Production Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- 2–8 years of experience in rubber molding or polymer manufacturing industry.
