Job Summary
The BESS Engineer / Manager will be responsible for energy simulation and optimal sizing, technology selection and vendor evaluation, system design & engineering from conceptual to detailed design engineering stage, and technical support to Business Development (BD) during proposal development. The role ensures delivery of technically robust, compliant, and cost-optimized BESS solutions across utility-scale and C&I projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Energy Simulation & Optimal BESS Sizing
- Perform energy simulations and operational modeling to determine optimal BESS
MW/MWh configuration.
- Analyze load profiles, renewable generation data, tariffs, grid constraints, and use
cases.
- Define and assess dispatch strategies such as peak shaving, arbitrage, renewable
smoothing, and backup.
- Consider efficiency, degradation, SOC limits, cycling constraints, and lifecycle
performance.
- Prepare techno-economic sizing studies, simulation reports, and
recommendations.
2. Technology Selection & Vendor Evaluation
- Lead technology selection for battery systems, PCS, BMS, EMS, and auxiliary
equipment.
- Perform technical evaluation of BESS and PCS vendors, reviewing:
o Battery chemistry, architecture, thermal and safety design

o PCS topology, efficiency, grid-forming / grid-following capability
o BMS, EMS, SCADA integration and communication
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, grid codes, IEC / IEEE standards,
and safety norms.
- Compare vendors on performance, degradation assumptions, warranties,
availability, and lifecycle energy throughput.
- Support technical bid evaluation, clarifications, and vendor recommendations.
3. System Design & Engineering (Conceptual to Detailed)
- Develop and review end-to-end BESS system design from conceptual through
detailed engineering.
- Define BESS architecture, electrical ratings, protection philosophy, and grid
interconnection design.
- Prepare / review key engineering deliverables including:
- AC & DC Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)

General Arrangement (GA) drawings

Cabling, earthing, lightning protection, and protection & control schemes
- Ensure coordination between BMS, PCS, EMS, SCADA, and grid requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, safety and risk assessments, and technical approvals.
4. Support to Business Development (BD) – Proposals
- Provide technical inputs for RFQs, RFPs, and project proposals.
- Develop conceptual designs, system sizing, technical write-ups, and compliance matrices.
- Support costing assumptions, losses, efficiencies, and performance guarantees.
- Participate in customer technical discussions, presentations, and clarifications.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of BESS technology, PCS integration, and power systems
- Experience in energy modeling, system design, and vendor evaluation
- Knowledge of lithium-ion battery behavior, degradation, and safety systems
- Familiarity with IS / IEC / IEEE standards, grid codes, protection systems, and electrical safety standards
- Ability to interpret and review technical vendor documentation
- Strong technical communication and cross-functional coordination skills
Tools & Software
- Energy simulation tools: Python / MATLAB / Homer / Excel-based models (any equivalent)
- Electrical design tools: AutoCAD
- Power system study tools (preferred): ETAP / DigSILENT / PSCAD
Education
- B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Mandatory)
- M.Tech in Power Systems / Renewable Energy (Preferred)
Preferred Experience
- Utility-scale or C&I BESS project execution
- Renewable + BESS hybrid systems
- Interaction with global BESS & PCS OEM
