We are currently hiring an experienced Regional Business Manager (RBM) for one of our reputed pharmaceutical partners in Kolkata, West Bengal.
Position Overview
The Regional Business Manager (RBM) is a strategic sales leadership position responsible for driving overall business performance across an assigned region.
The successful candidate will lead a team of Area Business Managers (ABMs), Medical Representatives (MRs), and Sales Executives while ensuring achievement of regional sales objectives, prescription generation, market expansion, customer engagement, and operational excellence.
The RBM will work closely with senior leadership to execute regional business strategies, identify growth opportunities, strengthen doctor relationships, develop future leaders, and ensure sustainable business growth through ethical pharmaceutical marketing practices.
This position requires exceptional leadership, commercial acumen, analytical thinking, coaching ability, and deep understanding of the pharmaceutical market.
Key Responsibilities: Regional Sales Leadership
- Develop and execute regional sales strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
- Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual regional sales targets.
- Drive prescription generation and increase market share across assigned territories.
- Develop annual business plans and regional growth strategies.
- Monitor regional performance against established KPIs.
- Ensure sustainable revenue growth through effective sales execution.
- Identify high-growth markets and maximize territory potential.
- Lead business expansion initiatives across the region.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, motivate, and develop Area Business Managers and field sales teams.
- Recruit, onboard, and retain high-performing sales professionals.
- Conduct regular field coaching and joint field work with ABMs and Medical Representatives.
- Evaluate team performance through structured performance reviews.
- Develop Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for team members.
- Identify high-potential employees and prepare succession plans.
- Foster a high-performance, collaborative, and accountable sales culture.
- Drive employee engagement and productivity across the region.
Business Development
- Identify new business opportunities and untapped markets.
- Increase product penetration across hospitals, clinics, institutions, and retail channels.
- Drive primary and secondary sales growth.
- Support successful product launches and marketing campaigns.
- Develop regional strategies to improve prescription share.
- Maximize business opportunities through scientific product promotion.
- Ensure effective implementation of national marketing initiatives.
Doctor, Hospital & Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with leading physicians, specialists, consultants, and Key Opinion Leaders.
- Strengthen institutional business through hospitals, nursing homes, and healthcare organizations.
- Conduct strategic customer engagements with high-value healthcare professionals.
- Support Area Business Managers during important customer meetings.
- Ensure effective scientific product communication.
- Maintain long-term professional relationships with influential healthcare stakeholders.
Distributor & Supply Chain Management
- Build strong partnerships with stockists, distributors, and channel partners.
- Ensure uninterrupted product availability throughout the region.
- Monitor inventory levels and reduce stock-outs.
- Improve distributor productivity and business performance.
- Resolve supply chain issues proactively.
- Ensure efficient execution of secondary sales activities.
Territory Management
- Design effective territory coverage plans.
- Monitor customer coverage, call averages, and productivity.
- Optimize territory allocation based on business potential.
- Ensure efficient deployment of field resources.
- Improve productivity across all assigned territories.
- Review route plans and territory performance regularly.
Sales Performance Management
- Monitor daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales performance.
- Analyze sales trends and identify performance gaps.
- Conduct periodic business reviews with Area Business Managers.
- Develop action plans for underperforming territories.
- Ensure achievement of productivity metrics.
- Track ROI of promotional activities.
Coaching & Capability Development
- Conduct regular product training sessions.
- Improve scientific detailing capabilities.
- Enhance negotiation and selling skills of the sales team.
- Coach managers on leadership and people management.
- Develop future business leaders.
- Encourage continuous learning and professional development.
Market Intelligence
- Monitor competitor activities, pricing strategies, and promotional campaigns.
- Analyze prescription trends and customer behavior.
- Identify emerging market opportunities.
- Recommend strategic initiatives to improve market positioning.
- Collect customer feedback and share business insights with senior management.
Reporting & Business Analytics
- Review Daily Call Reports (DCRs).
- Analyze regional sales dashboards and business reports.
- Prepare monthly business reviews.
- Forecast regional sales performance.
- Ensure accurate reporting and CRM compliance.
- Present business performance to senior leadership.
Compliance & Ethical Practices
- Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical industry regulations.
- Maintain adherence to company SOPs and ethical marketing guidelines.
- Promote responsible selling practices.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and organizational policies.
- Maintain the highest standards of professional integrity.
Candidate Requirements: Education
- Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Candidates from Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Nursing, Management, or other relevant disciplines are welcome to apply; however, educational background will not be the primary selection criterion.
- MBA or any professional management qualification will be considered an added advantage but is not mandatory.
Experience
- 8–15 years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical sales.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as an Area Business Manager (ABM) or equivalent leadership role.
- Proven experience leading high-performing pharmaceutical sales teams.
- Strong experience managing regional business operations.
- Demonstrated success in achieving regional sales targets.
- Experience launching pharmaceutical brands.
- Strong understanding of prescription generation and ethical pharmaceutical marketing.
- Experience handling multiple territories and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Candidates currently working with reputed pharmaceutical companies will be preferred.

Pay: ₹1,000,000.00 - ₹1,200,000.00 per year
