Position Title: Head – Design & Development / R&D Head
Department: Design, Engineering & Development
Location: Kharabwadi, Chakan, Pune
Experience Required: 12–20 years (minimum 6–8 years in Gear Manufacturing & Forging)
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech – Mechanical / Production Engineering (M.Tech preferred)
Role Summary
The Design & Development Head will lead the engineering, product design, and development activities for gears, transmission components, forged parts, dies, and related systems. The role ensures innovative designs, manufacturability, cost optimization, and alignment with customer requirements while coordinating closely with production, quality, and marketing teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Design & Engineering
Lead design of spur, helical, bevel, worm gears, shafts, and precision machined components.
Oversee design of forging components, dies, tooling, and process layouts.
Develop new product concepts, engineering drawings, and specifications.
Ensure designs meet performance, durability, and quality standards.
2. New Product Development (NPD)
Manage end-to-end NPD cycle from concept to production handover.
Conduct feasibility, cost analysis, and manufacturability studies.
Validate prototypes through testing, simulation, and trials in gear shop and forge shop.
Drive continuous improvement for existing products.
3. Technical Expertise & Standards
Ensure detailed understanding of:
Gear design fundamentals (AGMA / DIN / ISO standards)
Gear geometry, load calculations, profile modifications
Material selection, heat treatment, metallurgical considerations
Forging die design, impression design, flash line control
Maintain technical documentation, standards, and engineering changes (ECN/ECR).
4. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with production, forging, machining, quality, PPC, purchase, and sales teams.
Provide technical support during machining, forging trials, and customer audits.
Interact with customers for design validation, drawing approvals, and technical discussions.
5. Software & Tools Management
Proficiency in:
CAD tools: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, CADMATE
Gear design software: CADMATE, KISSsoft, Romax, Gleason GEMS
Simulation & analysis tools: ANSYS, FEA, CAE tools
Die design software for forging.
6. Research, Innovation & Cost Optimization
Develop cost-effective designs with optimized material usage and process flow.
Introduce new materials, coatings, and heat-treatment improvements.
Implement VA/VE (Value Analysis / Value Engineering).
Monitor competitor innovations and market trends.
7. Leadership & Team Development
Lead the Design & Development team, mentoring engineers and designers.
Set team KPIs, ensure skill development, and manage project timelines.
Build a culture of innovation, accuracy, and continuous learning.
Required Skills & Competencies
Deep knowledge of gear design, machining processes, forging operations, and tooling.
Expertise in reverse engineering, GD&T, FEA, tolerance analysis.
Strong application understanding of materials, heat treatment, metallurgy.
Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
Ability to lead cross-functional technical teams.
Strong analytical and project management abilities.
