Chronus is the market leader in enterprise mentoring and connection software, trusted by Fortune 500 companies worldwide. Under new leadership and backed by private-equity investment, we are expanding beyond mentoring into a broader platform for how organizations develop, engage, and retain their people.
We are an AI-native engineering organization — coding agents, automated review, and machine-assisted design are core to how we ship, not a side experiment. You will join a small, seasoned team of engineers with deep technical backgrounds, a high bar, and the autonomy to move fast. We are looking for a Tech Lead to be the technical anchor among them.
This is a hands-on individual-contributor role: you lead through architecture, code, design review, and influence rather than through direct reports — the person the team reasons with when a design is hard, a system is slow, or the path forward is unclear. It is built to grow, with a natural path into a Principal Engineer or Architect role as your scope expands. Required experience 7-10 years.
System Design & Technical Direction
- Own the high- and low-level design of complex initiatives — from system architecture down to component and data-model detail — with security, scale, and cost-effectiveness in mind.
- Set the technical direction: the build-vs-buy, schema, and service-boundary calls, documented clearly enough that the team moves fast behind you.
- Run design reviews that raise the bar — pushing back on accidental complexity and favoring evolution over rewrites.
Hands-On Delivery
- Stay in the code: write production code and own the hardest parts of the most important work.
- Proactively review pull requests to hold design and code quality to a high bar across the team.
- Own performance and reliability — profile, fix the real bottleneck, and carry the production workloads and incidents that follow.
AI-Native Engineering
- Build software that writes software — extend Chronus's agent tooling, code generation, and the internal scaffolding that compounds the team's output.
- Work fluently with AI coding agents — decompose work for them, correct their output, and build the guardrails that keep agent-assisted development fast and safe.
- Optimize the development life cycle and CI/CD pipeline, shortening the path from commit to production without lowering the bar.
Experience & Track Record
- A track record of shipping production software, with a meaningful stretch at a lead technical level.
- Full-stack range — equally at home in backend services and a modern JavaScript front end.
- Strong system-design instincts at both high and low levels: you turn an underspecified problem into an architecture that scales and stays operable.
Skills & Mindset
- Builds software that writes software: agent tooling/automation that compounds the team's output.
- AI-agent fluency: works with AI coding agents daily and holds their output to production quality.
- Generative AI: hands-on integrating LLMs, with a realistic view of evaluation, cost, and latency.
- Hands-on and pragmatic: leads from inside the work; prefers simple, maintainable solutions.
Strong Advantages
- Multi-tenant B2B SaaS experience, and the realities of serving enterprise customers.
- Exposure to a cloud PaaS such as AWS, and the building blocks behind scalable services.
- Familiarity with Rails and React, or a comparable server-side framework and modern SPA front end.
- A record of driving developer-experience, CI/CD, or platform initiatives to completion.
