A dialysis technician (or hemodialysis technician) operates, maintains, and sanitizes the specialized machines that remove waste and excess fluid from the blood of patients with chronic kidney failure. Working under nurses or physicians, they prepare treatment stations, initiate dialysis (including needle insertion), monitor patient vitals, and provide care during the procedure. - Machine Preparation & Maintenance: Assembling, cleaning, and testing dialysis equipment to ensure it operates correctly.
- Patient Care: Preparing patients by checking vitals (blood pressure, temperature, weight) before, during, and after treatment.
- Cannulation: Inserting needles (fistula or graft) to connect the patient to the machine.
- Monitoring Treatment: Closely watching the patient and machine for complications during the 3–4 hour treatment.

- Supervision: They work under the direct supervision of registered nurses or doctors in hospitals, clinics, or outpatient dialysis centers.
