This position’s responsibilities include coordinating the efforts in detailed graphical design of equipment required for the successful completion of projects. Customer specifications, internal specifications, internal schedules shall be met while minimizing mistakes due to poor quality. Must travel, as necessary, for information sourcing and overall project coordination. Work with Project Team to identify and resolve any project issues. Assume a lead role in project design integrity; participate in design review meetings and generate and review drawings as required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Mange priorities within the group to meet proposal, contract, and development schedules.
- Monitor quality and schedule of deliverables produced by the group.
- Provide technical input to the project development process, by coordinating contractual requirements within engineering, customer, vendors, sub-fabricators, and project management.
- Review and critically analyze customer/contract specifications for completeness of information and conformity to company and industry standards, noting deviations, exceptions, and clarifications for universal acceptance.
- Training and development of members in the group as needed.
- Participate in meetings with customers, engineering consultants, licensees, or other Company affiliated units when meetings are held on issues that require direct involvement of functions of the group.
- Maintain complete files on all contracts, proposals, and history files supportive of previous efforts.
- Keep appraised of standard updates, ISO procedures, design practices, erection procedures, CAD development program updates, and computer software advancements.
- Generate and review work product as required including all facets of design drawings and erection drawings.
Job Requirements / Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Understanding of mechanical characteristics, means and methods, and materials of construction.
- Understanding of typical shop capabilities, constructability issues, and boiler terminology.
- In-depth knowledge of boiler, pressure part, industrial ductwork, piping (including high energy piping) and other plant equipment.
- Ability to generate, check, and review general layouts, erection drawings, and details as required.
- Understanding of boiler processes such as steam Iwater circuitry and external boiler equipment.
- Understanding of boiler components such as the drum, water walls, super heat, reheat,economizer, and air heater.
- Knowledge of boiler types and equipment such as stokers, front/rear fired, t-fired, package boilers, waste to energy,gas, coal, etc.
- In-depth and demonstratable knowledge of drafting practices, drafting/checking techniques, and drawing status cycles.
- Experienced CAD background including; Auto CAD 2D & 3D, Inventor, and Plant 3D.
- Ability to travel for customer meetings, site inspections and vendor shop surveillances.
- Strong written and verbal skills, strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- 15+ years design experience with boilers, pressure parts, and fossil fuel power plants.
