About the Role
We are seeking an accomplished and result-oriented Senior Associate Advocate to join our growing law firm in Kolkata. The ideal candidate will bring strong advocacy skills, sound legal judgment, and the ability to independently manage litigation, advisory, and client relationships across various practice areas. The candidate should be a self-starter capable of leading matters end-to-end, mentoring junior team members, and representing the firm's interests before courts, tribunals, and clients with the highest standards of professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently handle and appear in matters before courts, tribunals, arbitral bodies, and regulatory authorities.
- Advise clients on legal strategy, risk assessment, and the merits/demerits of matters under handling.
- Draft, vet, and finalize pleadings, petitions, applications, affidavits, contracts, agreements, legal notices, and opinions.
- Lead legal research on complex questions of law, ensuring arguments are backed by updated statutes, precedents, and judicial trends.
- Prepare case strategy, briefs, and arguments in coordination with senior partners/advocates for hearings, arbitrations, and negotiations.
- Supervise and mentor paralegals and junior associates, reviewing their drafts and research for accuracy and quality.
- Manage end-to-end client relationships, including client meetings, briefings, updates, and follow-ups.
- Oversee filing strategy and ensure procedural compliance across courts, tribunals, and government authorities.
- Monitor limitation periods, court dates, and case timelines, ensuring proactive and timely action.
- Conduct and supervise due diligence, contract review, and compliance exercises for corporate and transactional matters.
- Represent the firm in client negotiations, settlement discussions, and mediation/arbitration proceedings.
- Assist in business development, including preparation of legal updates, articles, client pitches, and firm collateral.
- Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and ethical standards in handling client matters.
- Coordinate with clients on ongoing deliverables, ensuring quality and timely service delivery.
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B.); an LL.M. or specialized certification will be an added advantage.
- Enrolled with the Bar Council and eligible to practice before Indian courts.
- Minimum 6–8 years of post-qualification litigation/advisory experience in a law firm, litigation chamber, or corporate legal department.
- Demonstrated experience independently appearing before courts, tribunals, or arbitral forums.
- Excellent legal drafting, advocacy, and research skills, with the ability to construct persuasive legal arguments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF editing tools.
- Proficient in using legal research databases such as SCC Online, Manupatra, or equivalent platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of Bengali and Hindi will be an added advantage.
- Strong leadership, client management, analytical, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously while mentoring and guiding a team.
