This is the seat that owns marketing at Almanac, in full, except for one thing: paid performance marketing, which sits with a separate hire reporting into this role. Everything else is yours. Brand voice. Creative direction across every property and channel. Partnerships and collaborations. PR and press. And, just as importantly, the offline world: community, loyalty, and the in-person events that turn a one-time guest into someone who comes back.
Almanac's real problem isn't that our properties don't look good. It's that we operate in a crowded space, it's easy for a guest to stay once and try somewhere new next time, and standing out takes more than a nice Instagram grid. This role exists to solve that, on every front it touches, not just the one that's easiest to point a camera at.
What You'll Actually Own
Brand and creative direction Set Almanac's voice and hold the line on it. Direct the visual and written identity across every property, every channel, and every piece of collateral, working closely with our creative team so nothing goes out that doesn't sound and look like us.
Content and social strategy Set the direction for our content across Instagram, LinkedIn, and beyond, and make sure a Marketing Manager and our Social Media Executors are executing against a real calendar and a real point of view, not posting on instinct.
Partnerships and collaborations Source, pitch, and close brand collaborations and partnerships that genuinely fit us. This means picking up the phone and getting the meeting, not just briefing an agency to find one.
Offline community and events Plan and run real, in-person events and community initiatives, from the guest list to the venue to the day-of execution. This is not a marketing campaign built around someone else's event. You are the one building it - in city and on property.
PR and press Earn Almanac coverage and industry visibility, including running our LinkedIn presence as genuine founder voice, not a company update feed.
Team and vendor direction Direct the Marketing Manager, our Social Media Executors, and our creative team's output. Set priorities, give feedback that actually improves the work, and catch what's off before it goes live.
Business accountability Know whether what you're doing is working, in terms the business cares about: direct bookings, repeat guests, partnerships that convert, not just likes and follower counts. Report to founders on what's actually moving.
What we are actually looking for:
We've interviewed a lot of strong resumes for this role that turned out to be strong at one piece of it andthin everywhere else. Here's what we mean, specifically:
- Real, personally-owned offline event or community-building experience. Not "supported an activation with social content and press outreach." Actually planned and ran something in person, from scratch, where you were accountable for whether people showed up and it worked.
- Partnerships you've actually closed, not campaigns you executed around a deal someone else made. We want to hear about the call you made, not the content you shipped once the partner said yes.
- A real point of view on brand voice, evidenced by work you can show us, not just a list of tools and platforms.
- Some experience directing other people's work, even informally. This role leads a small team from day one.
- Genuine comfort being the senior person in the room. This is a small, founder-run company. There is no one else to defer to on the calls that matter.
- 4-7 years of experience, hospitality, travel, F&B, or lifestyle brand background strongly preferred.
What This Role Is Not
It is not a social media management role with partnerships attached. It is not an agency-style execution role where someone else sets the strategy and you deliver against a brief. If your strongest work has been "managing brand presence across platforms" or "coordinating with creators and internal teams," on its own that is not enough, though it may be part of a real story if it comes with genuine ownership somewhere too.
