Job Title
Platform Engineer
Job Description
So who are we?
IG is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof.
We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated. What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses.
The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next. Join us at IG – the future gets built here.
Your role in the Team:
We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join our Platform Delivery Engineering team. You will play a key role in driving cloud-native automation, infrastructure-as-code delivery, and self-service engineering on AWS – helping to keep IG Group’s global trading platforms reliable, scalable, and secure.
The Platform Delivery Engineering team is responsible for the infrastructure and automation platform that underpins IG Group’s global trading operations. We are a focused team of five engineers expected to deliver cloud-native infrastructure on AWS, GitLab CI/CD pipelines, and self-service automation capabilities that enable development teams to move faster and with greater confidence. In this role, you will work with AWS cloud services, Terraform, scripting (Python, Bash), and AWS Lambda to build and operate cloud-native infrastructure.
The position goes beyond day-to-day operations: you will drive continuous improvements to reliability, security, and operational efficiency through cloud automation, and lead modernisation initiatives that have a tangible impact on the business.
Provision and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS using Terraform, ensuring consistent, version-controlled, and auditable infrastructure-as-code across all environments.
Design and deliver GitLab CI/CD pipelines and self-service automation frameworks that reduce manual effort, accelerate delivery, and empower development teams to operate independently.
Manage AWS networking infrastructure including VPCs, subnets, security groups, Route 53, CloudFront, and AWS Load Balancers to ensure secure, highly available, and performant platform for IG’s business technology teams.
Lead cloud automation initiatives, including supporting the migration of workloads to AWS, enabling the adoption of modern serverless and containerised patterns, and elimination of on-premises dependencies.
Provide subject-matter expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex infrastructure incidents, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing preventive measures.
Manage the software and dependency lifecycle for cloud-hosted workloads – including security patching, open-source component updates, and maintaining a clear inventory of platform dependencies.
Manage cloud-native artefact repositories and package distribution, ensuring all software dependencies are versioned, accessible, and auditable through tooling such as Artifactory or AWS CodeArtifact.
Develop AWS Lambda functions and event-driven automation to handle operational workflows, scheduled jobs, and cloud-native tasks, reducing operational overhead and improving platform responsiveness
What you'll need
Experience Level: 5+ years in Infrastructure cloud automation engineering.
Core Technical Requirements
Infrastructure-as-code expertise using Terraform – authoring, testing, and maintaining reusable modules to provision and manage AWS resources in a consistent, auditable manner across multiple environments.
Broad AWS platform experience spanning compute (EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda), storage (S3), networking (VPC, Route 53, CloudFront, ALB/NLB), identity (IAM, SCPs), and security services – with the ability to design, provision, and operate production cloud environments.
AWS networking expertise – designing and managing VPCs, subnets, security groups, CloudFront distributions, Route 53, and AWS Load Balancers (ALB/NLB); understanding of network security, DNS, and SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management
GitLab CI/CD pipeline development – designing multi-stage pipelines, environment promotion workflows, and self-service capabilities that enable teams to deploy safely and autonomously.
Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and AWS Lambda for building cloud automation, operational tooling, and event-driven workflows.
Experience with cloud-native artefact and package management, including S3-based distribution and repository tooling such as Artifactory or AWS CodeArtifact.
Linux systems administration experience (RHEL 9, Rocky Linux 9, or equivalent) on cloud instances, including systemd, SELinux, and security hardening of EC2 workloads.
Familiar with container and orchestration using Docker/Helm and Kubernetes (including EKS), with an understanding of image lifecycle, cluster management, and deployment patterns.
Strong understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing) and cloud security best practices; familiarity with compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS is advantageous.
Experience managing software and dependency lifecycle across cloud workloads – including security patching, vulnerability management, and dependency hygiene
Nice to Have
Experience with AWS CloudFront or equivalent CDN platforms for content delivery and edge security.
Advanced container orchestration experience with EKS, ECS Fargate, or equivalent Kubernetes distributions .
Familiarity with AWS WAF, API Gateway, or service mesh technologies for traffic management and application-layer security.
Experience with cloud observability tooling such as AWS CloudWatch, X-Ray, or equivalent platforms for metrics, tracing, and alerting.
Exposure to serverless and event-driven architecture patterns using AWS Step Functions, EventBridge, or SNS/SQS
