Job Summary
Responsible for providing skilled scrub assistance during cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures, maintaining sterile technique, preparing equipment and instruments, and ensuring safe and efficient patient care throughout the procedure.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the Cath Lab, instruments, sterile trays, equipment, and consumables before procedures.
- Assist the cardiologist as a scrub nurse/technician during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
- Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques throughout procedures.
- Prepare and handle sterile instruments, catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, sheaths, and other devices.
- Anticipate the operator's requirements and provide instruments and devices efficiently.
- Assist with preparation and handling of contrast media and other procedure-related supplies as per hospital protocol.
- Monitor availability and expiry of Cath Lab consumables, implants, and emergency supplies.
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of procedure-specific instrument sets.
- Follow infection-control, biomedical waste management, radiation-safety, and hospital policies.
- Assist during emergency situations, including cardiac arrest and other Cath Lab emergencies.
- Ensure proper counting and documentation of instruments, needles, and other consumables.
- Assist in maintaining procedure records and implant/device documentation.
- Coordinate with nurses, cardiologists, anesthesia team, technicians, and other departments as required.
- Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and turnover of the Cath Lab after procedures.
- Maintain readiness of emergency equipment, crash cart, and essential Cath Lab equipment.
- Participate in quality improvement, audits, training, and continuing education activities.
Required Qualifications
- For Scrub Nurse: B.Sc Nursing / GNM with valid nursing registration.
- For Cath Lab Technician: B.Sc Cardiac Care Technology / B.Sc Medical Laboratory or relevant Cath Lab/Allied Health qualification, as applicable.
- Previous experience in a Cath Lab, cardiac OT, or interventional cardiology unit is preferred.
- Knowledge of sterile techniques, cardiac procedures, Cath Lab equipment, and infection-control practices.
Preferred Skills
- Good knowledge of coronary angiography and PCI procedures.
- Familiarity with catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, sheaths, and other interventional devices.
- Ability to anticipate the cardiologist's requirements during procedures.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure during emergency procedures.
- Attention to detail and strong adherence to safety and infection-control protocols.
- Willingness to work rotational shifts, weekends, and emergency/on-call duties.
