Job Summary
The Transport Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day transportation operations, ensuring the efficient management of vehicles, drivers, routes, maintenance activities, and compliance with safety regulations. The role requires strong leadership, fleet management expertise, and the ability to ensure smooth and cost-effective transport operations.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Management
- Manage and monitor the organization's fleet of vehicles.
- Ensure vehicles are maintained in optimal working condition through preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Coordinate vehicle inspections, servicing, repairs, and fitness certifications.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle registrations, insurance, permits, and compliance documents.
Operations Management
- Plan and optimize transportation routes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Monitor daily transportation activities and ensure timely service delivery.
- Coordinate with internal departments to meet transportation requirements.
- Handle transportation-related emergencies and resolve operational issues promptly.
Driver Management
- Supervise and manage drivers and transport staff.
- Conduct driver induction, training, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, road safety regulations, and driving standards.
- Manage driver schedules, attendance, and duty rosters.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all transport regulations, statutory requirements, and safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and vehicle breakdowns, and implement corrective actions.
- Promote a culture of safety and responsible driving.
Budget & Cost Control
- Monitor transportation expenses, including fuel, maintenance, and operational costs.
- Implement cost-control measures to improve efficiency.
- Prepare transport-related reports and budgets.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain transportation records and management reports.
- Track vehicle utilization, fuel consumption, maintenance schedules, and driver performance.
- Present periodic reports to management on fleet performance and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Automobile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Additional certifications in Fleet Management or Transport Operations will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 5–10 years of experience in transport or fleet management.
- Experience in managing goods carriage vehicles, buses, or large fleets.
- Proven experience in supervising drivers and transport operations.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and fleet management.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Good understanding of transport laws, road safety regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and transport management systems.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience in educational institutions, logistics, transportation, or fleet-based organizations.
- Ability to handle multiple transportation operations simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills.
