Job Overview
Quantum Pulse Technologies is seeking an innovative and results-driven Robotics & Automation Engineer to join our technical team at the SECE Innovation Hub, Coimbatore. In this role, you will design, prototype, and deploy intelligent robotic systems and automated hardware solutions. You will bridge mechanical design, embedded software, and industrial automation to develop autonomous systems, smart edge devices, and production-ready automated equipment. Operating out of the innovation hub, you will work closely with cross-functional engineering leads, product development teams, and R&D partners to accelerate hardware and software integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Robotic System Design & Development: Architect, build, and test custom robotic systems, autonomous mobile platforms, and automated mechanisms.
- Control Systems & Firmware: Develop and optimize motion control algorithms, motor controllers, sensor fusion pipelines, and embedded firmware (C++/Python).
- Robot Operating System (ROS/ROS2): Write modular ROS/ROS2 packages for navigation, localization (SLAM), path planning, and task execution.
- PLC & Industrial Automation: Program and integrate PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley), SCADA systems, VFDs, and industrial sensors for automated testing or assembly lines.
- Sensor Integration: Integrate IMUs, LiDARs, depth cameras, encoders, and thermal sensors with microcontrollers and single-board computers (NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi).
- Hardware & PCB Prototyping: Assist in schematic design, PCB layout, rapid prototyping, and 3D modeling/CAD design for robotic enclosures and mechanical rigs.
- Testing & Deployment: Conduct simulation tests using tools like Gazebo, RViz, or RoboDK, followed by physical bench-testing, field testing, and hardware debugging.
- Documentation & Safety Standards: Maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, wiring diagrams, and ensure compliance with industrial safety protocols (e.g., ISO 10218, CE standards).
- Architected internal project requirements and facilitated high-impact training programs to upskill enthusiastic internal talent.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Core Technical Skills:
- Experience: 3 to 5 years in robotics design, embedded systems development, or industrial automation engineering.
- Robotics Frameworks: Strong proficiency in ROS / ROS2, Gazebo, and kinematics/dynamics libraries.
- Programming Languages: Advanced hands-on development in C++ and Python.
- Microcontrollers & Edge AI: Experience programming ARM Cortex, STM32, ESP32, and deployable edge compute hardware (NVIDIA Jetson / Xavier).
- Industrial Automation: Practical experience with PLCs, Ladder Logic, industrial communication protocols (Modbus, CAN bus, EtherCAT, PROFINET), and motor drives (Servo/Stepper).
- CAD & Mechanical Modeling: Familiarity with 3D CAD design platforms (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or AutoCAD) for rapid mechanical prototyping.
- Computer Vision (Basic/Intermediate): Practical exposure to OpenCV or point-cloud processing (PCL) for visual inspection and object tracking.
Soft Skills:
- Strong hands-on hardware troubleshooting, circuit debugging, and analytical skills.
- Clear communication and collaborative mindset for working in a fast-paced innovation lab environment.
- Proactive drive to test, iterate, and solve complex real-world hardware challenges.
Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills
- Certifications in PLC programming, ROS development, or industrial automation platforms.
- Experience with autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), AGVs, or robotic arm manipulation (UR, Mitsubishi, KUKA).
- Knowledge of IoT frameworks (MQTT, OPC UA) for Industry 4.0 data acquisition.
