The position requires extensive interface with engineering disciplines, modelers, designers and detailers locally in the Mumbai and Bangalore offices as well as remotely with construction, design leads and project management teams in various offices in the United States.
The position is responsible for engineering activities on extensive and complex projects, especially combined cycle projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build trust and positive relationships between the US and India engineering teams to foster a culture of continual improvement.
- Ensure proper implementation and application of the workshare methodology and work processes, promoting operational-level teamwork to support successful worksharing.
- Manage discipline, technical work and team activities to meet all health, safety, environmental, statutory, customer, local and global standards while maintaining design integrity.
- Participate in project execution strategy and planning, drive innovative solutions and develop engineering plans to support successful project delivery.
- Review estimates and provide input for efficient resource utilization.
- Align resource loading and skill requirements with department managers.
- Mentor, train and supporting team development.
- Enable engineering leads to execute work within design criteria and discipline budgets.
- Conduct, coordinate and participate in quality reviews, project planning reviews and model reviews while following up on action item lists and clash lists. Circulate meeting minutes (MOMs) to stakeholders and work closely with the CAD coordinator on scheduling and technical parameters.
- Ensure all design engineering activities meet or exceed engineering standards regarding cost, safety, timeline and performance.
- Plan and manage engineering data systems, specifications, standards, models, procurement specifications and collaboration tools.
- Develop engineering strategies and plans to support early procurement and construction.
- Establish and enforce the division of responsibility (DOR) for engineering allocated to Burns & McDonnell India.
- Track project quality reviews and assume responsibility for overall project quality.
- Assist the project manager with required reporting, risk evaluation during the engineering phase, engineering change orders and the schedule impact log.
- Participate in monthly review meetings and engineering progress updates, assisting project controls with updating the project schedule.
- Review and implement lessons learned from past projects, making sure the key technology transfer (KCT) for the current project is logged.
- Assist department managers with team performance feedback.
- Implement the project design manual and project quality assurance plan for the duration of the project.
- Maintain drawing logs, including engineering and vendor submittal drawing lists.
- Confirm that all appropriate design documents are reviewed as required, including owner reviews, and that approved drawings are followed during work execution.
- Take corrective action where necessary to prevent or resolve deficiencies in quality, project activities and schedules.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering from an accredited program.
- Experience: 12 to 17 years of experience as a project engineer/ project manager or discipline engineer, including at least seven years of project leadership experience.
- A proven track record of managing large facility projects from the conceptual design phase through commissioning is required.
- Ability to deal effectively with various industries, government and public personnel and contracts on project-related matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- An inquisitive nature with an eagerness to learn new skills, technologies and systems.
- Self-motivated with demonstrated initiative to continually improve the systems and processes used for managing projects.
