Position - Deputy Manager – Traffic (Cargo)

Reports To - Operations Manager
Location – Anna Nagar, Chennai.
Job Purpose
The Deputy Manager – Traffic is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling the daily transportation activities of the Cargo Division. The role ensures efficient vehicle deployment, timely delivery of customer consignments, optimum fleet utilisation, effective driver management, and adherence to statutory and company compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Traffic & Fleet Operations
- Plan and monitor daily vehicle deployment based on customer requirements and operational priorities.
- Ensure timely vehicle placement, dispatch, loading, transit, and delivery as per committed timelines.
- Monitor fleet movement through GPS and tracking systems to ensure smooth operations.
- Maximise vehicle utilisation while reducing idle time and unnecessary operational delays.
- Coordinate vehicle availability with maintenance teams to minimise downtime and improve fleet productivity.
- Ensure efficient route planning to optimise travel time, fuel consumption, and operational costs.
Driver & Team Management
- Supervise Traffic Executives, Supervisors, and Drivers to ensure disciplined and efficient operations.
- Allocate duties and monitor driver attendance, punctuality, performance, and compliance with company policies.
- Address driver-related operational issues and ensure timely resolution of grievances.
- Conduct periodic team meetings and provide guidance to improve operational efficiency and customer service.
- Identify training needs and support the development of operational staff.
Customer & Operational Coordination
- Coordinate with customers regarding vehicle placement, dispatch schedules, delivery commitments, and operational updates.
- Respond promptly to customer enquiries and resolve operational issues to maintain service excellence.
- Maintain effective communication with branch offices, warehouses, and client locations to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Handle escalations professionally and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
MIS & Performance Monitoring
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly MIS reports covering fleet utilisation, trip status, delivery performance, customer service levels, and operational productivity.
- Analyse operational data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records in ERP/TMS systems and ensure timely updates of operational information.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Promote safe driving practices and compliance with road safety regulations.
- Investigate operational incidents, delays, and customer complaints, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and service quality.
- Ensure adherence to company policies on quality, safety, and operational excellence.
