Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Purchase Head to lead the procurement and vendor management functions of our manufacturing plant. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring timely, cost-effective, and quality sourcing of raw materials, components, consumables, and services.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in procurement, vendor development, negotiation, and supply chain management within the heavy engineering and manufacturing industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Procurement Leadership
- Lead the Purchase Department to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing.
- Develop procurement strategies aligned with production and business goals.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives and improve procurement efficiency.
- Vendor Development & Management
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable vendors and suppliers.
- Negotiate contracts for competitive pricing, quality, and delivery schedules.
- Build long-term vendor relationships and develop alternate sources to reduce supply chain risks.
- Material Planning & Coordination
- Ensure timely availability of raw materials, components, and consumables.
- Coordinate with Production, Stores, and Dispatch for material requirements.
- Monitor procurement schedules to avoid delays in manufacturing operations.
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to company procurement policies and SOPs.
- Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, contracts, and vendor agreements.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Inventory & Cost Control
- Work closely with Stores to maintain optimum inventory levels.
- Minimize excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.
- Monitor procurement costs and support financial efficiency initiatives.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor the purchase team.
- Establish clear responsibilities, accountability, and performance expectations.
- Promote discipline, teamwork, and a high-performance culture.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong expertise in procurement and vendor development.
- Excellent negotiation and commercial skills.
- Knowledge of supply chain management and inventory control.
- Experience in heavy engineering and manufacturing procurement.
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple vendors and procurement categories.
Qualification
Graduate / Post Graduate in:
- Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering
- Supply Chain Management / Materials Management
- MBA (Operations / Supply Chain) preferred
Experience
12 to 20 years of proven experience in:
- Procurement and vendor management in manufacturing industry
- Heavy engineering, fabrication, and industrial equipment procurement
- Strategic sourcing and supply chain management
- Senior leadership roles in Purchase / Procurement
Compensation
CTC no bar for the right candidate.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and suitability for the role.

The ideal candidate will be a mature, strategic procurement leader with strong expertise in vendor development, negotiation, and supply chain management. The candidate must possess commercial acumen, operational discipline, and the ability to work closely with management to ensure cost-effective and timely procurement.
