Job Summary
We are looking for a Koha LMS Implementation & Customization Specialist with 3–4 years of hands-on experience in deploying, configuring, and customizing Koha-based Library Management Systems. The role involves installation, system configuration, customization of modules, data migration, integration with library technologies, and technical support for institutional libraries.
Key Responsibilities
1. Koha Installation & Deployment
- Install, configure, and deploy Koha LMS on Linux-based servers.
- Manage Koha environments (production, staging, and development).
- Configure core modules including:
- Cataloging
- Circulation
- Acquisitions
- Serials
- OPAC
- Patron Management
2. System Customization & Development
- Customize Koha templates, CSS, and system preferences to match library requirements.
- Modify Perl-based Koha components and configuration files when required.
- Develop and customize reports using SQL queries in Koha reporting module.
- Customize OPAC interface and branding for institutions.
3. Database & Data Migration
- Manage Koha databases using MySQL / MongoDB.
- Perform data migration from legacy systems to Koha.
- Map bibliographic records following MARC21 standards.
- Ensure proper indexing and search configuration using Zebra or Elasticsearch.
4. Library Standards & Protocols
- Configure and manage library standards such as:
- MARC21
- Z39.50
- SRU/SRW
- Dublin Core
- Support import/export of bibliographic records.
5. Integration & Automation
- Integrate Koha with:
- RFID library automation systems
- Barcode systems
- Self-check kiosks
- Institutional portals or ERP systems
- Implement API integrations and authentication systems (LDAP / SSO) where required.
6. System Administration & Maintenance
- Monitor system performance and logs.
- Apply Koha updates, patches, and upgrades.
- Manage backups, security configurations, and server health.
- Troubleshoot system, indexing, and performance issues.
7. Training & Documentation
- Provide technical training for librarians and system administrators.
- Prepare technical documentation, SOPs, and user guides.
- Provide ongoing technical support to users.
Required Skills & Technical Expertise
- 3–4 years of experience working with Koha Library Management System.
- Strong knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu/Debian) server environment.
- Experience with MySQL / MongoDB database management.
- Knowledge of Perl scripting (basic to intermediate).
- Experience with Koha reporting module using SQL queries.
- Familiarity with Apache, Git, and system administration basics.
- Understanding of library metadata standards (MARC21, Z39.50).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Library Science, or related field.
- Experience with Koha community development or plugin customization.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch / Zebra indexing.
- Experience implementing RFID-based library automation systems.
