About the Role
We are hiring an Australian Payroll Specialist to run end-to-end payroll for Australian entities from our Ahmedabad office. You will own the full pay cycle — from timesheet and award interpretation through to ATO reporting and superannuation lodgement — and be the first point of contact for payroll queries from Australia.
The shift is 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM IST, which gives strong live overlap with the Australian business day for query resolution and pay-run sign-offs.
This is a hands-on processing and compliance role, not a generalist HR role.
Key Responsibilities
- Process end-to-end weekly, fortnightly and monthly Australian payrolls accurately and to deadline.
- Interpret modern awards, Enterprise Agreements and the National Employment Standards (NES) to calculate ordinary hours, overtime, penalty rates, allowances, shift loadings and casual loading.
- Maintain employee master data — new starters, TFN declarations, super fund nominations and stapled fund requests, salary changes, transfers and terminations.
- Calculate and validate gross-to-net, including PAYG withholding, salary sacrifice, deductions, child support and garnishee orders.
- Prepare and lodge Single Touch Payroll (STP) Phase 2 reporting to the ATO each pay event, and complete end-of-financial-year finalisation declarations.
- Calculate, reconcile and remit Superannuation Guarantee contributions via SuperStream/clearing house within statutory due dates.
- Manage leave entitlements and accruals — annual leave and 17.5% leave loading, personal/carer's leave, parental leave, and state-based long service leave.
- Process terminations and final pays, including notice, redundancy, unused leave payouts and Employment Termination Payments (ETPs) with correct tax treatment.
- Prepare state payroll tax returns and annual reconciliations across applicable states and territories.
- Support workers compensation declarations, portable long service leave schemes and other statutory returns.
- Report RESC and reportable fringe benefits amounts correctly through STP.
- Perform pre- and post-payroll reconciliations, control checks and variance analysis before each sign-off.
- Prepare payroll journals, GL postings and month-end reporting for finance.
- Respond to employee and client payroll queries within agreed SLAs during the Australian business day.
- Support internal and external payroll audits with clean documentation and audit trails.
- Track Fair Work and ATO legislative changes — award rate increases from 1 July, SG rate changes, tax scale updates — and apply them on time.
- Maintain payroll SOPs, process notes and a compliance calendar of Australian statutory due dates.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- 2+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience. Australian payroll experience is strongly preferred; candidates with solid Indian payroll experience and genuine appetite to specialise in Australian payroll will also be considered, with training provided.
- Sound understanding of gross-to-net payroll logic, statutory deductions and payroll reconciliation.
- Advanced Excel — XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, pivot tables, reconciliations and high-volume data validation.
- High numerical accuracy and a strong control mindset; comfortable working to strict, non-negotiable pay-run deadlines.
- Absolute discretion in handling confidential compensation and personal data.
- Excellent written and spoken English for direct communication with Australian stakeholders and employees.
- Committed to the 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM IST shift on a long-term basis.
- Graduate in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
Preferred (Not Mandatory)
- Hands-on experience with ichris (Frontier Software) or Definitiv / Access Definitiv.
- Experience with other Australian payroll platforms — MicrOpay, WageEasy, chris21, Aurion, Preceda, Ascender, KeyPay / Employment Hero, Roubler, ELMO, Xero Payroll or MYOB.
- Additional payroll legislation experience in the United Kingdom, Singapore or Malaysia — for example UK PAYE/NI and RTI, Singapore CPF and IR8A, or Malaysian EPF, SOCSO and PCB. We expect to extend coverage to these jurisdictions over time.
- Practical experience with modern award interpretation or Enterprise Agreement configuration.
- Prior experience in a payroll outsourcing, BPO, shared services or global capability centre environment.
- Certification from the Australian Payroll Association, or a professional accounting qualification (CA, CMA, ACCA, CPA or Inter).
- Experience supporting payroll system implementations, parallel runs or migrations.
What We Offer
- ₹40,000 – ₹60,000 per month, based on experience
- Specialist Australian payroll expertise that is rare in the Gujarat market and highly portable
- Structured training on Australian payroll legislation and on ichris / Definitiv
- Day shift, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM — evenings free
- [Annual performance bonus and health insurance]
- [5-day work week]
- [Clear progression to Senior Specialist and Team Lead roles]
- Stable, full-time office role in Ahmedabad — no relocation abroad required
