Job Description – Student Counsellor

Position Overview:
The Student Counsellor serves as an essential support system in the school environment, providing emotional, social, and psychological guidance to students. The role focuses on helping students manage academic pressure, interpersonal challenges, and emotional well-being, while working closely with parents, teachers, and school leadership to ensure a healthy and positive school climate.
The counsellor is also expected to implement preventive and developmental programs that promote mental wellness, resilience, and social-emotional learning across all grade levels.
Key Responsibilities
1. Student Support and Counselling
- Conduct individual and group counselling sessions to address students’ emotional, behavioural, social, and academic concerns.
- Create a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment for students to express themselves.
- Help students build problem-solving, decision-making, and coping skills.
- Identify early signs of emotional or behavioural issues and provide timely interventions.
- Maintain counselling schedules, case notes, and reports in strict confidentiality as per institutional policy.
2. Collaboration with Teachers and School Staff
- Partner with teachers to understand behavioural patterns, learning difficulties, and classroom interactions.
- Guide teachers on strategies for managing behaviour, improving engagement, and supporting emotional well-being.
- Conduct awareness sessions for staff on recognizing and addressing student mental health concerns.
3. Parent Communication and Support
- Engage with parents to share insights on students’ well-being and developmental progress.
- Provide guidance to parents on managing behavioural or emotional challenges effectively.
- Conduct workshops for parents on topics such as adolescent behaviour, screen time, bullying, and emotional intelligence.
4. Program Development and Implementation
- Design and conduct life skills sessions and workshops on self-awareness, stress management, empathy, conflict resolution, and goal setting.
- Develop preventive programs addressing bullying, exam anxiety, social media safety, and substance awareness.
- Organize orientation sessions for new students to facilitate smooth adaptation.
- Contribute to the school’s annual well-being calendar and initiatives promoting mental and emotional health.
5. Crisis Intervention and Safeguarding
- Provide immediate emotional support during crises such as grief, trauma, or breakdowns.
- Serve as an active member of the Child Protection Committee, ensuring adherence to safeguarding and child safety policies.
- Report student safety or welfare concerns (neglect, abuse, etc.) in accordance with school policy.
6. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of counselling sessions, interventions, and follow-ups.
- Submit regular reports to the Principal/Vice Principal highlighting student welfare trends and activities.
- Track and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling programs and interventions.
Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
