Job Summary
A Senior Cath Lab Technician assists cardiologists and interventional specialists during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. The role involves operating specialized equipment, monitoring patients, maintaining sterile techniques, supervising junior staff, and ensuring patient safety before, during, and after procedures.
Clinical & Technical Duties
- Prepare the Cath Lab for cardiac and vascular procedures.
- Assist doctors during:
- Coronary angiography
- Angioplasty (PTCA)
- Pacemaker implantation
- Electrophysiology studies
- Peripheral vascular procedures
- Operate imaging and monitoring equipment.
- Handle contrast injectors, hemodynamic monitoring systems, and emergency devices.
- Maintain sterile field and infection control protocols.
- Prepare and manage catheters, guidewires, balloons, and stents.
- Monitor patient vital signs and ECG during procedures.
- Respond effectively during cardiac emergencies.
Patient Care
- Prepare patients before procedures.
- Explain basic procedural steps and safety instructions.
- Monitor patients post-procedure for complications.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety.
Leadership & Administrative Duties
- Supervise junior technicians and support staff.
- Maintain inventory of Cath Lab consumables and equipment.
- Coordinate with cardiologists, nurses, and biomedical teams.
- Ensure documentation and procedure records are accurate.
- Assist in quality assurance and NABH/JCI compliance activities.
- Train new staff on Cath Lab protocols and equipment usage.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/B.Sc. in Cardiac Care Technology, Radiology, or Allied Health Sciences.
- Certification in Cath Lab Technology preferred.
- BLS/ACLS certification is an advantage.
- 4–8 years of Cath Lab experience for senior-level positions.
