About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled QA Test Engineer to join the Chrome Browser engineering team, focusing on Linux ARM64 architecture and Media playback capabilities. The role involves validating the performance, stability, and compatibility of the Chrome browser on ARM64-based Linux environments, with a primary focus on Media Testing. Success in this role means ensuring seamless video/audio streaming and compliance with web-media standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute, maintain, and design functional, regression, and performance test suites for the Chrome/Chromium browser on Linux ARM64 platforms.
- Validate end-to-end media pipelines in Chrome, including audio/video playback, codec performance, rendering, and synchronization.
- Test and profile hardware-accelerated video decoding/encoding capabilities on ARM64 Linux hardware.
- Validate compliance with modern web media technologies, including WebRTC, Media Source Extensions, and Encrypted Media Extensions.
- Isolate, reproduce, and file high-quality bug reports for complex browser crashes, media artifacts, and performance regressions.
- Analyze browser logs, kernel logs, and crash dumps.
- Utilize and build upon Chromium testing frameworks and automate test matrix runs using Python or Bash.
Requirements
- Have 6+ years of experience in testing, specifically with device and OS testing.
- Demonstrate experience in end-to-end device testing and system stability/performance testing.
- Possess advanced debugging and root cause analysis skills, including log analysis and debugging tools.
- Have experience testing across various hardware interfaces and peripherals.
- Be familiar with issue tracking systems and tools such as adb, Linux commands, minicom, ChromeOS crosh, Buganizer, TestTracker, Gerrit, and Python scripting.
- Have strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Have a strong background in Linux OS environments with a deep understanding of Linux system-level configurations.
- Have hands-on experience testing software or operating systems specifically optimized for ARM64 hardware architectures.
- Have a solid understanding of digital video/audio concepts, streaming protocols, containers, and codecs.
Good to Have
- Familiarity with building Chromium from source, parsing chrome://media-internals, and working with Chromium bug trackers.
