A waiter/waitress ensures a positive dining experience by greeting guests, taking accurate food and beverage orders, serving orders, processing payments, and maintaining cleanliness in the dining area. They must possess strong communication, multitasking, and customer service skills to work efficiently in fast-paced environments, often working flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Greeting guests, presenting menus, and answering questions about menu items or allergens.
- Order Taking: Recording food/beverage orders accurately and entering them into POS systems.
- Service: Delivering food and beverages from the kitchen to tables efficiently.
- Table Maintenance: Clearing dirty dishes, cleaning tables, and resetting them for the next guests.
- Upselling: Offering menu recommendations, appetizers, and beverages.
- Payments: Presenting checks, collecting payments, and operating the cash register.
- Coordination: Communicating with kitchen staff to ensure timely service and accurate special requests.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Communication: Excellent verbal skills to interact with guests and staff.
- Multitasking: Ability to manage multiple tables simultaneously under pressure.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for long periods and carry heavy trays.
