HackerRank helps companies like NVIDIA, Amazon, and Microsoft hire and upskill the next generation of developers based on skills, not pedigree. Our platform is trusted by over 2,500 of the world's most innovative companies to build strong engineering teams ready for what's next.
Software has entered an era where humans and AI build side by side. As this shift accelerates, the definition of strong technical talent is changing. We give companies better ways to identify and invest in next-generation skills.
People at HackerRank care deeply about the impact of their work and sweat the small details so our customers can be wildly successful with products they genuinely love to use. We move with urgency and believe great outcomes come from high standards.
If you've ever stared at a broken error message and felt the urge to actually understand what went wrong, not just move past it, you already think like a great customer experience engineer. This internship was built for you.
CXEs at HackerRank sit right where customers, product, and engineering meet. You'll investigate technical issues, trace problems across APIs and integrations, find the real root cause, and build the tooling and automation that makes the experience better for customers worldwide. This is not your average support internship. We're looking for engineers with strong fundamentals who are curious about both technology and people.
- You're paired with a mentor who has your back the whole time
- You work on real customer problems and internal tooling early, not at the end
- You get full visibility into company goals, performance, and product direction
- You have direct access to teams across the company and the freedom to challenge assumptions with data
- APIs, integrations, and how systems talk to each other
- Debugging, log analysis, and root cause investigation
- Automation and tooling you build yourself
- Customer problem-solving from first contact to resolution
- Product and systems thinking, plus cross-functional work with Engineering, Product, and GTM
- Reading and navigating production codebases to investigate issues and understand system behavior
- Contributing code, bug fixes, tooling, or improvements under the guidance of experienced engineers
- Strong programming fundamentals and real comfort reading code
- Familiarity with REST APIs and web technologies
- Genuine curiosity about how software systems work end to end
- Sharp analytical and problem-solving instincts
- Clear written and verbal communication, since you'll talk to both customers and engineers
- This role is on a rotational shift schedule covering mornings, evenings, and weekends - flexibility with timings is a must
The best CXE interns like ambiguous problems, explain technical things in plain language, and see how customer experience connects to product design. Many grow into Customer Experience Engineering, Forward Deployed Engineering, or Software Engineering.
Successful interns may be considered for full-time opportunities within our Customer Experience Engineering organization.
CXE is designed as a growth pathway that develops technical talent toward advanced customer engineering, solution engineering, and software engineering roles. This is an opportunity to build real-world engineering skills while developing a deep understanding of customers and products.
Every role is intended to be a launchpad, not a destination.
