Job Role Overview:
As a Packaging Engineer, the primary focus of this role is to work with suppliers during the PPAP stage to define, validate, and confirm suitable packaging solutions for production parts. The role will ensure packaging designs meet product protection, quality, logistics, cost, sustainability, and global plant requirements before serial production launch. This position requires close collaboration with Procurement, Supplier Quality, Engineering, and logistics teams across global AGCO plants to drive reliable, cost-effective, and standardized packaging solutions that support smooth inbound material flow and supply continuity.
Key Responsibilities:
Packaging Development and PPAP Support:
Work with suppliers during the PPAP stage to review, define, and confirm packaging concepts, ensuring the selected packaging is suitable for part protection, handling, storage, transportation, and global plant usage.
Validate packaging proposals together with Supplier Quality, Procurement, Engineering, and plant logistics teams, ensuring packaging requirements are clearly documented and approved before production launch.
Develop and maintain packaging specifications, standards, and approval records, including packaging dimensions, material type, palletization, stackability, returnable or expendable packaging options, and special handling requirements.
Assess packaging reliability through practical reviews, trial shipments, damage feedback, handling risks, and plant receiving feedback, and drive corrective actions where packaging performance does not meet expectations.
Support supplier readiness by ensuring packaging solutions are feasible for supplier operations, compliant with AGCO requirements, and aligned with global logistics flows from supplier location to receiving plants.
Cross-functional Collaboration, Cost Saving, and Continuous Improvement:
Maintain close communication with Procurement to balance packaging cost, supplier capability, lead time, and commercial feasibility while supporting sourcing and supplier development activities.
Partner with Quality teams to prevent packaging-related defects, damage, contamination, or non-conformance, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions when packaging issues occur.
Identify and implement packaging improvement opportunities that reduce total logistics cost, improve cube and container utilization, reduce damage risk, support sustainability, and increase reliability across global plant operations.
Required Qualifications / Skills:
Bachelor’s degree or above in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related technical field.
Relevant experience in packaging engineering, supplier packaging development, logistics packaging, manufacturing engineering, or supplier quality within an industrial or automotive environment.
Good understanding of PPAP, supplier launch readiness, and new product introduction processes, with the ability to integrate packaging confirmation into the product approval process.
Knowledge of packaging materials, palletization, load stability, part protection, returnable and expendable packaging, and transportation handling requirements.
Strong ability to communicate and coordinate with suppliers, Procurement, Quality, Engineering, and global plant logistics teams to align packaging requirements and resolve open issues.
Cost-conscious mindset with the ability to identify packaging optimization opportunities, improve cube and container utilization, reduce damage risk, and support total logistics cost reduction.
Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze packaging failures, drive corrective actions, and improve packaging reliability based on plant feedback, trial shipment results, and quality data.
Good documentation skills, including the ability to define packaging specifications, maintain approval records, and track packaging-related actions during supplier development and PPAP stages.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools; experience with ERP systems, packaging databases, CAD tools, or data analysis tools is preferred.
Fluent English communication skills are preferred, with the ability to work effectively in a global, cross-functional environment.
