1. Job Purpose
The Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair and upkeep of mechanical equipment and machinery used in the sublimation paper manufacturing process.
The role is critical to ensuring safe, reliable and continuous operation of production machinery while minimizing mechanical breakdowns and production downtime.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance
- Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance of production and utility equipment.
- Attend mechanical breakdowns promptly and restore equipment to operating condition with minimum downtime.
- Identify mechanical faults, diagnose root causes and carry out corrective maintenance.
- Inspect machinery for abnormal noise, vibration, leakage, overheating, wear and alignment issues.
- Maintain daily maintenance records and breakdown reports.
B. Production Machinery Maintenance
Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical components of equipment such as:
- Paper coating machines
- Unwinding and rewinding systems
- Rollers and guide rollers
- Drying/curing sections and associated mechanical components
- Calendering machines
- Slitter and rewinder machines
- Pumps and piping systems
- Gearboxes and gear drives
- Bearings, shafts and couplings
- Pneumatic cylinders and mechanical actuators
- Conveyors and material-handling equipment
- Cooling and heating-related mechanical systems
Sublimation paper coating lines commonly involve coating, drying, calendering and rewinding/slitting operations, making reliable mechanical maintenance important for continuous production.
C. Mechanical Fitting & Repair Work
- Dismantle, inspect, repair and reassemble mechanical equipment.
- Replace worn or damaged bearings, seals, bushes, couplings, chains, belts and other components.
- Perform shaft, roller and coupling alignment.
- Carry out lubrication and greasing of machinery as per maintenance schedules.
- Perform basic fabrication, cutting, drilling, grinding and fitting work whenever required.
- Assist in machine installation, commissioning and modification activities.
- Read and understand mechanical drawings, equipment manuals and basic engineering diagrams.
D. Machine Alignment & Reliability
- Ensure proper alignment of shafts, rollers, bearings, gearboxes and couplings.
- Check belt and chain tension and correct as required.
- Monitor vibration, temperature and other indications of mechanical problems.
- Identify recurring failures and recommend corrective actions to the Maintenance Head.
- Support initiatives to improve machine reliability and reduce breakdown frequency.
E. Spare Parts & Tools
- Identify required mechanical spare parts during maintenance and breakdowns.
- Inform the Maintenance Head about critical spare requirements.
- Maintain proper use and safe custody of maintenance tools and equipment.
- Assist in maintaining minimum stock levels of critical mechanical spares.
F. Safety & Housekeeping
- Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements and safe work practices.
- Follow proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before working on machinery.
- Ensure the machine is isolated and safe before starting maintenance work.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the maintenance and production areas.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, major defects or potential hazards to the supervisor.
- Follow company procedures related to fire, emergency and workplace safety.
3. Required Qualification
Minimum: ITI – Fitter / Mechanical Fitter
Preferred:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Relevant technical certification in mechanical maintenance
ITI Fitter is a common qualification for mechanical fitter roles in manufacturing environments.
4. Experience
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in paper, coating, printing, packaging, textile, chemical or similar continuous-process industries will be preferred.
- Candidates with hands-on experience in rollers, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, shafts, pneumatic systems and rotating equipment will be preferred.
5. Required Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical fitting and maintenance.
- Good understanding of bearings, gearboxes, shafts, couplings, belts and chains.
- Knowledge of pumps and pneumatic systems.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems will be an advantage.
- Ability to perform machine alignment.
- Ability to use mechanical hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Ability to read basic mechanical drawings.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Basic knowledge of welding, cutting, drilling and fabrication work.

8. Preferred Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should be a hands-on Mechanical Fitter who can independently identify mechanical problems, perform repairs and support preventive maintenance activities on continuous-production machinery.
Experience with coating machines, rollers, dryers, calenders, slitter-rewinders, gearboxes, pumps, bearings and rotating equipment will be an added advantage.
Note: The Mechanical Fitter may be required to work in rotational shifts, emergency breakdown situations and planned shutdown/maintenance activities as per production requirements.
