Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Clinical Assessments: Conduct comprehensive physical and cognitive examinations, testing a patient’s coordination, reflexes, sensation, vision, and speech. [1, 2]
- Diagnostics: Order, perform, and interpret neurological tests such as EEGs (brain electrical activity), nerve conduction studies, MRIs, and lumbar punctures. [1]
- Treatment Planning: Develop evidence-based medical treatment, rehabilitation, and medication plans. (Note: Neurologists do not perform surgeries; they refer to neurosurgeons when surgical intervention is needed.) [1, 2, 3]
- Ongoing Management: Monitor patient progress, adjust prescriptions, and counsel patients and their families on long-term health management. [1, 2, 3]
- Collaboration: Work alongside neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, rehabilitation therapists, and ICU teams to provide integrated, comprehensive care. [1]
