Position Overview
The Regional Sales Manager – North will be responsible for driving sales growth, distribution expansion, customer development, and team performance across the North region. The incumbent should have strong experience in FMCG sales, Modern Trade, General Trade, distributor management, and handling premium cold-chain products such as dairy, cheese, frozen foods, meats, ice cream, gourmet foods, or similar categories.
The role requires a highly result-oriented professional capable of managing key retail accounts, distributors, sales teams, and market expansion initiatives while ensuring profitability and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities1. Sales & Business Development
· Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for the North Region.
· Drive primary and secondary sales growth across MT and GT channels.
· Develop and implement regional sales plans aligned with company objectives.
· Identify new business opportunities and growth avenues.
· Ensure achievement of product-wise and category-wise sales targets.
2. Modern Trade Management
· Manage relationships with key Modern Trade accounts.
· Negotiate annual trading terms, promotions, and business plans.
· Ensure listing of new products across MT chains.
· Monitor product availability, visibility, shelf placement, and planogram compliance.
· Drive promotional activities and monitor ROI.
3. General Trade & Distributor Management
· Appoint and develop distributors across the region.
· Expand distribution reach and market penetration.
· Monitor distributor performance, inventory levels, and stock availability.
· Ensure timely collections and adherence to credit policies.
· Drive distributor profitability and engagement.
4. Cold Chain & Premium Product Management
· Ensure proper handling and distribution of cold-chain products.
· Monitor stock rotation and minimize expiry-related losses.
· Coordinate with Supply Chain and Warehouse teams to ensure product freshness and availability.
· Develop sales strategies for premium imported and gourmet products.
· Educate customers and distributors on product handling requirements.
5. Team Management
· Lead and manage Area Sales Managers, Sales Officers, and Sales Executives.
· Conduct regular market visits and joint working.
· Review team performance and provide coaching.
· Ensure effective territory management and productivity enhancement.
· Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of sales personnel.
6. Market Expansion & Customer Development
· Identify and develop new retail channels and markets.
· Increase numeric and weighted distribution.
· Build relationships with key retailers and regional accounts.
· Track competitor activities, pricing, and market trends.
· Launch new products and ensure market acceptance.
7. Planning, MIS & Reporting
· Prepare sales forecasts and annual business plans.
· Review sales reports and market intelligence.
· Monitor achievement against budgets and targets.
· Submit timely MIS reports and action plans.
· Coordinate with Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Supply Chain teams.
Educational Qualification
· Graduate in any discipline.
· MBA in Marketing preferred.
Experience Required
· 10–15 years of FMCG Sales experience.
· Minimum 5–7 years handling Modern Trade & General Trade.
· Experience handling premium food products, dairy products, frozen foods, cheese, cold cuts, ice cream, beverages, or similar categories.
· Experience managing distributors and retail sales teams.
· Strong exposure to North Indian markets.
