Role Summary
The Civil Engineering Manager – Wind Projects will lead all civil engineering design, technical review, and execution support activities for utility-scale wind and hybrid renewable energy projects. The role is responsible for ensuring safe, optimized, and cost-effective civil infrastructure design from project development through construction and commissioning, including WTG foundations, internal roads, pooling substations, drainage systems, control buildings, and geotechnical assessments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Civil Engineering Leadership & Governance
- Lead and manage civil engineering activities across wind and hybrid renewable energy projects.
- Establish engineering standards, design guidelines, quality benchmarks, and technical review processes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety requirements, and project specifications.
- Provide technical oversight and approval of all civil engineering deliverables.
2. WTG Foundation Design & Engineering
- Lead design and optimization of Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) foundations for multiple OEM platforms.
- Review foundation design criteria, loading conditions, construction methodology, and design assumptions.
- Coordinate with OEMs and consultants to ensure compliance with turbine-specific requirements.
- Support construction teams with engineering solutions during execution.
3. Geotechnical & Topographical Engineering
- Review and interpret geotechnical investigation reports and topographical surveys.
- Evaluate soil conditions, bearing capacities, slope stability, settlement risks, and foundation recommendations.
- Support site selection, layout optimization, and risk mitigation planning.
- Coordinate additional ground investigation requirements as needed.
4. Civil Balance of Plant (BoP) Design
- Lead the design of internal roads, crane pads, drainage systems, culverts, retaining structures, and site grading.
- Review and optimize earthwork quantities and site development plans.
- Ensure designs support efficient transportation, installation, and long-term operation of wind assets.
- Oversee hydrology and stormwater management assessments.
5. Pooling Substation & Building Infrastructure
- Manage civil engineering design for pooling substations, switchyard foundations, equipment foundations, cable trenches, and related infrastructure.
- Review designs for control rooms, access buildings, operation and maintenance facilities, and associated structures.
- Ensure constructability, safety, durability, and cost-efficiency across all civil infrastructure.
6. Technical Due Diligence & Feasibility Support
- Support project development activities through technical due diligence and site assessments.
- Contribute to feasibility studies, project layouts, cost estimates, and development strategies.
- Provide technical inputs for land evaluation, permitting, and project risk assessments.
7. Cost Optimization & Techno-Commercial Support
- Prepare and review BOQs, engineering estimates, and construction cost assessments.
- Support procurement teams with technical specifications, bid evaluations, and contractor selection.
- Identify value engineering opportunities to optimize project CAPEX without compromising quality or safety.
8. Construction Support & Technical Assurance
- Provide engineering support during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Review construction methodologies and resolve site engineering challenges.
- Ensure adherence to approved designs, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Participate in inspections, audits, and project reviews.
9. Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Promote a strong culture of safety and quality across all project phases.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable national and international codes and standards.
- Support implementation of quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering and execution practices.

Key Skills
- WTG foundation design and execution experience across multiple turbine OEMs.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering, topographical studies, and foundation optimization.
- Civil BoP design including roads, crane pads, drainage systems, grading, and site infrastructure.
- Experience in pooling substations, control rooms, access buildings, and equipment foundations.
- Strong focus on safety, quality, constructability, and engineering excellence.
- Cost estimation, BOQ preparation, vendor management, and technical bid evaluation.
- Ability to support multidisciplinary teams across development, engineering, procurement, and construction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in wind energy or renewable infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in WTG foundation design and execution for utility-scale wind projects.
- Strong knowledge of geotechnical investigations, topographical analysis, and civil BoP engineering.
- Experience with design standards, construction methodologies, and quality management systems.
- Preferred certifications: PMP, Chartered Engineer (IEI) or equivalent professional qualification.
