JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Maintenance Engineer
Department: Maintenance
Location: PAMS Engineering, Hootagalli Industrial Area, Mysore
Reports To: Maintenance Manager / Plant Manager
Job Summary
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and reliability of all plant machinery, equipment, utilities, and infrastructure within the manufacturing facility. The role involves planning and executing preventive and breakdown maintenance activities, minimizing equipment downtime, improving machine performance, and ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance standards. The Maintenance Engineer will work closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to achieve optimum equipment availability and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plant & Equipment Maintenance
- Plan, schedule, and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities for production machinery and utilities.
- Ensure maximum machine uptime and minimize equipment breakdowns to support uninterrupted production.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults and implement timely corrective actions.
- Monitor machine performance and recommend improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.
- Maintain critical spare parts inventory and coordinate procurement of maintenance consumables.
2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all production equipment.
- Maintain maintenance history records and analyze equipment performance trends.
- Conduct periodic inspections to identify potential equipment failures and recommend preventive actions.
- Implement predictive maintenance techniques to improve equipment life and reduce maintenance costs.
3. Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, and energy efficiency.
- Lead root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Support installation, commissioning, relocation, and modification of new machinery and equipment.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize plant maintenance practices.
4. Team Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Stores departments to ensure timely maintenance support.
- Supervise maintenance technicians and contractors during maintenance activities.
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to maintenance personnel.
- Ensure effective communication during planned shutdowns and emergency maintenance.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history, breakdown reports, and preventive maintenance logs.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance reports.
- Update equipment manuals, maintenance checklists, and standard operating procedures.
- Monitor maintenance KPIs such as machine downtime, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), and MTTR (Mean Time to Repair).
6. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company safety policies and statutory regulations.
- Promote safe work practices including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and permit-to-work systems.
- Ensure compliance with preventive maintenance schedules, calibration requirements, and environmental standards.
- Participate in safety audits and implement corrective actions for maintenance-related observations.
Skills and Qualifications
Educational Qualifications
- Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 6–8 years of experience in maintenance engineering within a manufacturing industry.
- Experience in handling preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
- Exposure to utility maintenance such as compressors, DG sets, air systems, pumps, and material handling equipment will be an added advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of PLC-controlled machines and automation systems is desirable.
- Familiarity with TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), 5S, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
- Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and maintenance manuals.
- Good knowledge of MS Office and maintenance management systems.

Working Conditions
- Full-time position, typically Monday through Friday, with overtime and shift support as required.
- Work is primarily performed in a factory/manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and industrial conditions.
- Availability during planned shutdowns and emergency maintenance situations.
- Occasional travel may be required for vendor visits, equipment inspections, or technical training.
Compensation
Salary: ₹35,000 – ₹45,000 per month (based on experience and qualifications)
