Position: Project Manager – Floating Solar
Location: Gujrat
Experience: 10 – 15 years
Qualification: B Tech – Electrical or Equivalent
To lead and manage the end-to-end construction and site execution of floating solar projects, ensuring safe, timely, cost-effective and quality-compliant completion of construction activities in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, project schedules and client requirements.
The role will be responsible for coordinating civil, mechanical, electrical, floating platform, anchoring, mooring, module installation, inverter and associated works, while effectively managing manpower, subcontractors, materials, equipment and site resources.
Key Responsibilities
1. Construction Planning & Execution
- Plan and manage day-to-day construction activities for floating solar projects.
- Develop and monitor construction schedules, activity plans and project milestones.
- Plan resources including manpower, materials, tools, machinery and equipment.
- Ensure construction activities are executed as per approved drawings, BOQ, specifications and method statements.
- Monitor progress against planned targets and implement recovery plans wherever required.
- Identify construction constraints and resolve site-level issues proactively.
- Coordinate project mobilization, execution and demobilization activities.
- Coordinate Billing and collection, JMS Certification, invoice submission and payment collection.
2. Floating Solar Installation
- Manage execution of floating solar systems including:
- Floating platforms and pontoons
- Walkways and access systems
- Floater & Solar PV module installation
- Anchoring systems
- Mooring systems
- Electrical cable routing and support systems
- Inverter and associated equipment installation
- Coordinate waterbody surveys, access arrangements and installation methodology.
- Ensure proper positioning, alignment and stability of floating structures.
- Monitor anchoring and mooring installation as per approved engineering requirements.
- Ensure safe movement of manpower and materials over water.
- Coordinate installation activities considering water depth, weather, wind and water-level variations.
3. Manpower & Subcontractor Management
- Plan and deploy skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled manpower based on project requirements.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure adherence to project targets.
- Monitor labour productivity and workforce utilization.
- Evaluate subcontractor performance and address productivity or quality issues.
- Conduct daily coordination meetings with supervisors, engineers and subcontractors.
- Ensure adequate manpower availability for critical activities.
4. Material & Equipment Management
- Coordinate with Procurement, Stores and Project teams for timely material availability.
- Ensure the material handling and documentation
- Monitor material receipt, inspection, storage and utilization.
- Ensure proper material reconciliation and minimize wastage.
- Plan deployment of boats, barges, cranes, lifting equipment, tools and other construction equipment.
- Ensure equipment is available and maintained in safe working condition.
- Monitor material and equipment productivity.
5. Quality Management
- Ensure construction is carried out as per approved Quality Assurance Plan (QAP), drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate stage-wise inspections and testing.
- Ensure Inspection Requests (IRs) are raised and closed on time.
- Coordinate with QA/QC teams and client/consultant representatives.
- Monitor quality of floating structures, anchoring, mooring, mechanical and electrical installations.
- Ensure proper documentation of inspections, test reports and approvals.
- Identify and prevent rework.
- Ensure NCRs and punch points are closed within agreed timelines.
6. Health, Safety & Environment
- Maintain a strong Safety-First culture at the project site.
- Ensure compliance with project HSE requirements and statutory regulations.
- Conduct and participate in daily toolbox talks and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
- Ensure appropriate PPE is used by all personnel.
- Ensure Permit to Work (PTW) requirements are followed.
- Implement safety procedures for:
- Work over water
- Working at height
- Electrical work
- Lifting operations
- Boat/barge operations
- Material handling
- Emergency evacuation
- Ensure life jackets and appropriate water-safety equipment are available and used.
- Stop unsafe activities immediately.
- Report and investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
7. Project Coordination
- Coordinate with Project Manager, Engineering, Planning, Procurement, QA/QC, HSE, Stores, Commercial and HR teams.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, vendors and subcontractors.
- Participate in daily, weekly and monthly project review meetings.
- Provide timely updates on construction progress, constraints and resource requirements.
- Coordinate engineering drawings, revisions and technical clarifications.
- Ensure timely resolution of site queries and construction-related technical issues.
8. Cost & Productivity Control
- Execute construction activities within the approved project budget.
- Monitor manpower, equipment and material productivity.
- Control wastage and unnecessary resource deployment.
- Monitor subcontractor quantities and work progress.
- Identify potential cost overruns and communicate them to the Project Manager.
- Support measurement, certification and billing activities.
- Ensure additional works are properly documented and approved before execution wherever applicable.
9. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily construction records.
- Prepare/verify Daily Progress Reports (DPR).
- Maintain manpower and equipment deployment records.
- Track productivity and work completion.
- Maintain inspection and quality records.
- Record site hindrances and delays.
- Maintain material consumption and reconciliation records.
- Support preparation of weekly and monthly project reports.
- Ensure proper documentation for project handover and completion.
10. Commissioning & Handover
- Coordinate construction completion activities.
- Ensure punch points are identified and closed.
- Coordinate pre-commissioning inspections and testing.
- Support electrical testing and commissioning activities.
- Ensure as-built information and project documentation are completed.
- Coordinate final inspection with client/consultant.
- Support preparation of project handover and completion documentation.
