The Manager on Duty (MOD) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hospital during their shifts. This role includes ensuring high-quality patient care, managing staff performance, and maintaining a safe and efficient environment for both patients and employees. The Manager on Duty will act as a key liaison between various departments, addressing any issues that arise and ensuring that hospital policies and procedures are followed. The MOD will also be involved in coordinating patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, as well as responding to emergency situations as they arise.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise and manage hospital operations during assigned shifts.
2. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
3. Serve as the primary point of contact for staff, patients, and families for any concerns or issues.
4. Coordinate patient care activities and support the nursing and medical staff in delivering high-quality care.
5. Monitor and manage patient flow throughout the hospital.
6. Address and resolve conflicts or issues that may arise among staff or patients.
7. Conduct regular rounds to check on patients and staff and address any needs.
8. Prepare and maintain reports on patient care and operational issues.
9. Collaborate with department heads to ensure the effective use of resources.
10. Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
Skills and Tools Required:
1. Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and staff.
3. Knowledge of healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices.
4. Solid problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially in emergency situations.
5. Familiarity with hospital management software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
6. Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
7. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
8. Clinical competence and understanding of patient care protocols.
9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent tools for reporting and documentation.
10. Previous experience in healthcare management or nursing leadership is preferred.
