Procurement Engineer – MEP Projects (3-8 Years Experience)
A Procurement Engineer – MEP Projects is responsible for planning, sourcing, evaluating, purchasing, and coordinating the delivery of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) materials and equipment required for construction projects in our organisation i.e. APEE Infratech India Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad
Key Responsibilities
- Review MEP drawings, BOQs, specifications, and material schedules to identify procurement requirements.
- Prepare and maintain material procurement schedules aligned with the project execution plan.
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with approved suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
- Obtain and compare technical and commercial quotations.
- Prepare comparative statements (CS) and purchase recommendations.
- Coordinate with design, planning, QA/QC, project, and commercial teams for technical and commercial approvals.
- Ensure procurement complies with project specifications, approved makes, standards, and consultant requirements.
- Raise and process purchase orders (POs) and monitor order status.
- Follow up with vendors for drawings, technical submittals, samples, approvals, manufacturing, inspection, and delivery.
- Monitor long-lead MEP equipment such as:
- HVAC equipment
- Chillers and AHUs
- Pumps
- Current Transformers, VCB panels / switchgear, isolators with earth switches, lightning arresters, potential/voltage transformers (PT/VTs), busbars and busbar, power cables and cable termination kitssupports, Cable joints, glands and cable accessories
- HT/LT panels
- Fire-fighting systems
- Plumbing equipment
- BMS and controls
- Coordinate material inspections, testing, dispatch, and site delivery.
- Track procurement using material tracking sheets/MIS and provide regular status reports.
- Resolve issues related to delivery delays, material shortages, quality, specifications, and vendor performance.
- Negotiate price, payment terms, delivery schedules, warranties, and other commercial conditions.
- Maintain procurement documentation including RFQs, quotations, technical evaluations, approvals, POs, invoices, delivery records, and warranties.
- Support project teams in achieving cost savings and timely material availability.
Typical Qualifications
- Bachelor's/Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Typically 3–8 years of experience in MEP procurement for construction projects, depending on seniority.
- Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, firefighting, ELV/BMS, and related MEP materials is advantageous.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel, ERP/procurement software, AutoCAD, and documentation systems.
- Strong understanding of BOQ, specifications, drawings, vendor evaluation, and commercial negotiation.
