We are looking for an experienced Commodity Buyer to join our Global Purchasing team. This role offers the opportunity to work with international suppliers, develop global sourcing strategies, and drive cost optimization initiatives for metal commodities across multiple manufacturing locations.
About the Role
As a Commodity Buyer, you will be responsible for managing the sourcing strategy, supplier relationships, and procurement activities for assigned commodity groups. You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Project Purchasing, Production, and Global Purchasing teams to ensure cost-effective, high-quality, and reliable supply solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing & Commodity Management
- Develop and implement global sourcing strategies for assigned commodity groups.
- Identify, evaluate, and nominate suppliers for manufacturing locations across Europe, Asia, and North America.
- Conduct supplier market research and benchmark analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Drive supplier consolidation and optimization initiatives.
- Participate in supplier selection using the organization's sourcing decision matrix.
Supplier Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with global suppliers.
- Lead commercial negotiations for pricing, contracts, and long-term agreements.
- Monitor supplier performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support supplier development and supplier reduction programs.
- Ensure supplier capacity meets business requirements across all manufacturing plants.
Purchasing Operations
- Manage RFQs, supplier quotations, purchase negotiations, and contract execution.
- Evaluate commercial and technical offers to ensure the best value for the business.
- Coordinate purchasing activities with Project Purchasing, Engineering, Logistics, Production, Costing, and Supply Chain teams.
- Participate in Make-or-Buy decisions for new and existing products.
- Ensure uninterrupted supply of purchased materials for regional and global operations.
Cost Optimization
- Drive annual cost reduction initiatives through strategic negotiations and value engineering.
- Develop and implement technical and commercial cost-saving projects.
- Monitor commodity market trends and raw material pricing.
- Identify opportunities for localization of purchased materials.
Reporting & Process Improvement
- Prepare regular purchasing reports and KPI updates for Global Purchasing leadership.
- Maintain purchasing records and supplier documentation.
- Support purchasing process improvements and digitalization initiatives.
- Participate in global commodity team activities and cross-functional improvement projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Automotive Purchasing or Commodity Buying.
- Strong understanding of strategic sourcing and supplier management.
- Experience working in an international or global purchasing environment.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings is highly preferred.
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
- German language skills are an added advantage.
