**Position Overview:**
An ICU Technician is a vital member of the critical care team responsible for supporting physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in providing high-quality care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). They assist in monitoring patient conditions, operating specialized medical equipment, and ensuring the safety and comfort of patients during their stay in the ICU.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- **Monitoring and Recording Vital Signs:** Continuously observe and record patients’ vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and temperature to assist in assessing patient status.
- **Operating Medical Equipment:** Set up, calibrate, and operate various ICU equipment including ECG machines, ventilators, infusion pumps, monitors, defibrillators, and other supportive devices, ensuring proper functioning and safety compliance.
- **Patient Care Support:** Assist nurses and physicians with routine patient care activities, such as positioning patients, helping with hygiene, and providing comfort measures, under supervision.
- **Emergency Response:** Support emergency procedures by preparing equipment, assisting during resuscitations, and ensuring rapid response protocols are followed effectively.
- **Data Documentation:** Accurately record all patient data, procedures, and interventions in medical records, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to hospital policies.
- **Equipment Maintenance:** Regularly check, clean, and maintain medical devices and supplies, reporting any malfunctions or issues to the appropriate personnel for prompt repair.
- **Assisting with Procedures:** Help healthcare professionals during invasive procedures, such as inserting IV lines, arterial lines, or assisting with intubations, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- **Patient Safety and Comfort:** Ensure the safety, well-being, and comfort of ICU patients by monitoring for adverse reactions, assisting with mobility, and providing emotional support when appropriate.
- **Compliance and Infection Control:** Follow strict infection control protocols and hospital policies to prevent the spread of infections and ensure a sterile environment.
- **Communication:** Maintain effective communication with the healthcare team regarding patient status, equipment issues, and any concerns that arise during shift hours.
**Qualifications and Skills:**
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or training as a Medical Technician or ICU Technician preferred.
- Basic knowledge of ICU equipment, medical terminology, and patient care procedures.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Strong attention to detail, observation skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification may be required.
**Working Conditions:**
