About the Role
Architech Labs is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Enclosure Design Intern to join our product development team. This role offers an opportunity to work on the design and development of enclosures for electronic and embedded products, gaining hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototyping, manufacturing processes, and product engineering.
The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in CAD design, product development, and mechanical engineering, along with the ability to translate concepts into manufacturable enclosure designs.
Key ResponsibilitiesEnclosure & Product Design
- Assist in the design and development of plastic and sheet metal enclosures for electronic products.
- Create 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing-ready CAD designs.
- Develop enclosure layouts considering component fitment, assembly requirements, and manufacturability.
- Design mounting provisions for PCBs, connectors, displays, switches, buttons, sensors, and other internal components.
- Support enclosure split-line development, cover design, and assembly mechanisms.
CAD Modeling & Documentation
- Develop detailed part and assembly models using Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Onshape.
- Generate technical drawings, assembly drawings, and exploded views.
- Prepare STL, STEP, IGES, DXF, and PDF files for prototyping and manufacturing.
- Maintain design revisions and engineering documentation.
Prototyping & Manufacturing Support
- Assist in preparing designs for 3D printing and prototype fabrication.
- Support design validation, fitment testing, and design improvements.
- Apply basic Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external manufacturing partners during prototype development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (completed or pursuing final year) in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and product development processes.
- Proficiency in at least one CAD platform such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Onshape.
- Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and work in a fast-paced product development environment.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of plastic part design and sheet metal design.
- Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and prototyping workflows.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, CNC machining, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Exposure to enclosure design for electronics or embedded systems.
- Basic knowledge of materials such as ABS, PC, PC+ABS, PETG, Nylon, Aluminum, and Stainless Steel.
- Portfolio showcasing CAD models, academic projects, or product design work.
