Job Summary
The DevOps Linux Engineer acts as the vital bridge between ING’s Business units and core Infrastructure teams. You will specialize in network and security automation, specifically focusing on Linux environments, NGINX reverse proxies, and Ansible automation. Your primary responsibility is to analyze business requests, translate them into actionable technical tasks, and drive lifecycle management and incident resolution within an Agile/DevOps framework.
Key Responsibilities
Role Overview The DevOps Linux Engineer acts as the vital bridge between ING’s Business units and core Infrastructure teams. You will specialize in network and security automation, specifically focusing on Linux environments, NGINX reverse proxies, and Ansible automation. Your primary responsibility is to analyze business requests, translate them into actionable technical tasks, and drive lifecycle management and incident resolution within an Agile/DevOps framework. Key ResponsibilitiesRequest Analysis & Backlog Management Translate business and functional requirements into well-defined technical deliverables, ensuring clear acceptance criteria and implementation feasibility. Own and manage the engineering backlog in Azure DevOps, prioritizing work items based on technical dependencies, sprint capacity, and delivery timelines. Actively participate in daily standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives, providing technical progress updates, identifying risks, and driving user story completion within Agile frameworks. Infrastructure & Lifecycle Management Manage the lifecycle of hardware, virtual assets, and operating systems (primarily Ubuntu) linked to the squad. Schedule and execute regular patching, upgrades, and hardware replacement cycles. Maintain CMDB accuracy by ensuring the Configuration Management Database is perfectly aligned with active assets. Handle incident and problem management to quickly resolve issues affecting squad assets and maintain high availability. Automation, Security & Continuous Improvement Develop Ansible playbooks and Python/Perl scripts to automate health checks, monitoring, and deployments. Manage SSL/TLS certificates to ensure secure end-to-end communication across the infrastructure. Stay updated with emerging network and security technologies, sharing knowledge via internal initiatives and tech conferences. Technical RequirementsOperating Systems & DevOps Linux Expertise: Deep administrative knowledge of Ubuntu and enterprise Linux distributions. CI/CD & DevOps: Hands-on experience working within Azure DevOps environments. Version Control: Strong proficiency with Git workflow and code repository management. Networking & Reverse Proxy NGINX: Advanced expertise in deploying, configuring, and optimizing NGINX as a reverse proxy and load balancer. Application Delivery: Strong knowledge of F5 BIG-IP systems, specifically Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and Application Security Manager (ASM). Network Security: Robust understanding of network security principles, including Symantec security solutions. Encryption: Solid grounding in SSL/TLS protocols and certificate management. Automation & Scripting Configuration Management: Proven experience writing and maintaining Ansible playbooks. Scripting Languages: Proficiency in Python for monitoring and automation tasks; knowledge of Perl is a strong asset. Databases: Familiarity with SQL queries for asset tracking and verification (Nice to Have). NA
