Where You Come In?
The Instructor (Swimmer) within the Faculty of Marine is responsible for conducting practical training
sessions, managing and maintaining the seamanship laboratory, organizing safety drills, and ensuring
the upkeep of essential safety and seamanship equipment for various maritime courses including
B. Tech, G.P. Rating, and STCW programs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not restricted to the following:
1. Conduct Practical Sessions: Plan and execute practical training sessions in seamanship for
students enrolled in B. Tech (Marine Engineering/Nautical Science), G.P. Rating, and various
STCW courses.
2. Manage and Maintain Seamanship Lab: Oversee the day-to-day operations, cleanliness, and
maintenance of the seamanship laboratory, ensuring all equipment is in good working order and
readily available for practical training.
3. Organize and Conduct Drills: Plan, organize, and conduct mandatory drills including
Personal Survival Techniques (PST), Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB),
Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (STSDSD) as per STCW
regulations.
4. Maintain Equipment Records: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all laboratory
equipment related to Seamanship and Life-Saving Appliances (LSA), including inventory,
maintenance schedules, and repair logs.
5. Supervise Equipment Maintenance: Oversee and ensure the proper maintenance of Life
Buoys (L.B.), Life Rafts (L.R.), all other LSA equipment,and seamanship laboratory
equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
6. Coordinate and Assist: Coordinate effectively with other departments within the University
and provide assistance with miscellaneous office and academic tasks, including Physical
Training (PT) and Parade duties as required.
